In my free time, I like to produce my podcast. I call my podcast Doing the Most With Vago. The best way to describe it is a mix of old time radio and modern day irreverence. The topics that are covered by the show are often niche or otherwise unusual aspects of news, politics, history and the sciences. Oftentimes, I get my friends to co-host with me.
Desdemona is a white, Venetian debutante that chooses to marry a black man, a Moor, over the wishes of her father. At the beginning of the play, merely six hours after being married, Desdemona’s father attempts to stop her from accompanying Othello on military duty. He relents when Desdemona pledges her allegiance to Othello by telling her father, “But here’s my husband, And so much duty as my mother showed to you, preferring you before her father, so much I challenge that I may profess due to the Moor my Lord”
Shakespeare’s plays almost always surround the actions, affection, and or plot revolving around women. In the last three plays we’ve read, that being The Winter’s Tale, Othello, and Hamlet, the women of each play are prominent members of the story in a society where women are usually second to men. However, in many of Shakespeare’s plays he draws on ancient Greek myths in a number of ways not just in names. Also the creation of women by the gods, to punish man after Prometheus stole fire. In The Winters Tale, King Leontes is driven made thinking his wife, the Queen is having an affair with his friend.

As humans we all have been where rumors have been spread about us or where we do the opposite. They, however, all tend to do some harm to us and it can cause certain conflicts to occur during the process. Death can be the outcome of something like this because this did happen to three innocent people. They were all wrapped up in a bed of lies that ended their lives sooner than expected. Throughout history, societies have succumbed to the toxic concepts of racism, causing an unthinkable amount of chaos and devastation. While racism on its own can lead to many societal evils, racism coupled with jealousy can create a truly catastrophic force that can only lead to pure destruction. When someone of a different race and culture is placed in this kind of society, this destruction will only naturally follow. In the play Othello, William Shakespeare focuses on the tragic outcomes of Othello, a Venetian general and black Turkish Moor, and Desdemona, his white Venetian wife. Throughout the play, both covert and overt racism, assimilation, and jealous dispositions all foreshadow the untimely death of Desdemona and Othello.
As the tragedy begins, Othello and Desdemona had run off and gotten married without telling Desdemona’s father. When Iago finds out he did not get the job he wanted, he tells Roderigo to “Proclaim him in the streets; incense her kinsmen”(I. I. 76-80). Brabantio, who did not know about his own daughter’s marriage, is finding out from two strangers. This allows Iago to take advantage of Barbantio’s surprise and to come in between the newly weds with his disapproval.
