There are various scientific techniques when examining an ancient body. When Tollund man was first excavated in Denmark 1950, scientists were limited in the amount of analysis methods available. The first dating method used on Tollund man was pollen analysis, this scientific method would only bring a small time frame as to when he lived. Instead forensic scientists were prompted to use radiocarbon dating. Radiocarbon dating is conducted by measuring the levels of radioactive isotope carbon-14 in Tollund man's body.
Ötzi The Iceman was found 1991 by two hikers in the Austrian Alps. First police thought it was a lost hiker that died by freezing to death but then multiple tools from the copper age were found near the body and then scientists knew that this man came from the copper age. Jon Spoelestra’s Ice to the Eskimos was very interesting and informative. Throughout the entire book, Spoelestra reflected upon the experiences and knowledge that he gained from working in the sports industry. The circumstances of this depiction, such as the man chasing down another man shows details that were almost like a documentary of what happened to Ötzi. This could be the actual story or could be a tribal depiction of what this covetous culture’s methods used to acquire power and position.
