My theme of overcoming hardships is clearly portrayed in the article ‘Overcoming Obstacles: How Helen Keller Made a Difference’ written by Sarah Mills. Helen Keller was robbed of sight and sound but has overcome those obstacles and has lived an extraordinary life.

I think that Helen Keller is an amazing woman who has done extraordinary things with her life. Helen Keller's motivation to learn to speak is amazing. The amount of dedication Helen put into improving herself makes me look at her with such admiration. I think Helen is a brilliant person with a smart mind that can do anything she sets her mind to. Helen has overcome her hard lifestyle of being redundant of sight and sound when she was very young. Helen has now achieved great things in her life; being an author, getting a degree and she became a world-famous speaker. Helen hasn’t let her disabilities control her life and she has overcome that great obstacle. Just like in the article Abuse Survivor: “ It's not my shame” Tracy overcame her past and moved on from how she was treated and spoke up for herself and gave awareness to troubles that she faced as a child. Tracy overcame her hardships and troubles and took a step forward in the right direction. Helen’s past can also be linked to the article about Oprah Winfrey Overcoming Obstacles: What Oprah Winfrey Learned From Her Childhood Abuse. Oprah was abused and she shared her story about what she went through and how she overcame her past. “For everyone of us that succeeds, it’s because there is somebody there to show you the way out...for me it was teachers and school”, just as Oprah had someone to find hope in so did Helen and Tracy. Helen, Tracy, and Oprah have all looked beyond how they were treated and have become better people because of how they overcame their past. They have all been through so much and now have learned from their past and became who they want to
