You can't create experiences, experiences create you. People often say that life is a roller coaster ride because it is filled with ups and downs that helps you learn along your way through life. Those irreplaceable experiences are the main essence that makes life fascinating. It also help shape and mold your own personality and identity as quoted by Julius Caesar "Experience is the teacher of all things." Life is a series of experiences and leadership opportunities, and each of it surely has affected us in some way. Therefore, the leadership role that shook my world was when I became President of Illinois, Senator, Jason Barickmans’s Youth Advisory board. I begin the year by contacting Political Leaders from both parties and ask them to come and speak to the group. I also create debate activities, contact other guest speakers, and organize community service events. The list could go on eternally. The largest, most impactful leadership task I took on was conducting a group of students to think of an idea that we think needs to be readdressed by local politicians. We deliberated for over two weeks and finally came to a decision on the topic we would present. After much discussion, and work, our group had a very well put together bill proposition.
The most intriguing, yet nerve wracking part of this situation was standing in front of every Illinois Senator and presenting our bill. Not only did I have to present the bill, but I had to take questions from the skeptics, and reassure those who felt uneasy about our ideas. After much deliberation, Senator Barickman and I were able to earn enough support to further my bill idea.
