Yahweh was the sovereign God. Yahweh was the righteous judge. Yahweh was the gracious God. And, Yahweh was the faithful God. Abraham built an altar to the Lord after the Lord appeared to him. He built another altar after the Lord’s word of promise. He paid tithes after the Lord gave the victory. He took to the ground after the Lord appeared to him. He circumcised in compliance with God’s command. He interceded after judgement was revealed. He interceded again after God directed Abimelech to him. He rejoiced in the Lord after the fulfillment of God’s promise. He swore by the Lord after the Lord gave him peace in the land. He sacrificed Isaac in obedience to the Lord’s command. Worship was both a spontaneous and an ordered response to divine intervention.
