No Easy Day is an autobiography by Mark Owen. Owen was a navy SEAL that served on SEAL Team Six, otherwise known as DEVGRU, during the mission that killed Osama Bin Laden. Following the mission, Owen felt the need to write his book to put to rest the rumors and inaccurate accounts of what occurred that night in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Owen grew up in a small town in Alaska. His father taught him how to use a gun and he knew from the time he was thirteen that he wanted to be a SEAL. His parents did not approve of his aspirations and asked him to go to college first, which he did; but it did not change his mind about what he wanted to do. The screening test for the Green Team was composed of two parts: physical and oral. Owen had been on a mission when he was called for screening and the exhaustion from it almost caused him to fail the sit-up test. He did, however, fail the swimming test. It was discovered that the currents caused his failior so he was allowed retake the entire physical section of the test. He passed and screened positive to become a member of Green Team. In 2004 Owen went through DUVGRU training. It was extremely intense and he only survived by getting from meal to meal. In the mornings he underwent taxing physical workouts before going to train in close quarter battles (CQB). The SEALs’ were constantly in harsh conditions in order to prepare them to make appropriate decisions in the field no matter what state they are in.
