How the Government Handles the Alarming Effects of PTSD Drugs on the Military According to Dr. Glenn R. Schiraldi Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD is an anxiety disorder caused by extreme traumatic events, it is a natural reaction to severe trauma (Schiraldi pp.12-13). Many soldiers experience PTSD after they return home from the battle-field which affects their psychological and mental well-being. To treat military personnel who have PTSD, military psychiatrists prescribe drugs that pose alarming side effects. With PTSD on the rise, the government worldwide invests a large sum of money on psychiatric help yet the results are unsatisfactory, soldiers fail to acquire the optimum results they need. Instead, of providing needed therapy, psychiatrists instead supply hazardous drugs such as Zoloft, Seroquel and Xanax to treat military personnel with PTSD (CCHR, 2014), and even short-term use of these drugs have been proven to possess alarming side effects such as insomnia, impotence, increased salivation, hallucinations and memory problems (Patterson, E.), which could have been avoided with individualized therapy treatment (Billings, 2014). In addition, stacking medication after medication for PTSD gives military personnel horrendous effects due to untested combination of these drugs (Clay, B., 2017). Despite psychiatrist’s awareness and unawareness on the effects of these drugs, these medical practitioners still prescribe these medications regularly (B. Billings 2014).
