Genene Jones was a known baby killer, it’s a very dark thing to say and think about, but it’s the truth. Many feel as though what she got for punishment is nowhere near fair. That it doesn’t even begin to make up for what she did to these poor children and what it put the family’s through (Salinas). There is still some debate as to how many children they think she really killed. Some say she killed around a dozen and others say she may have murdered sixty or more. She had been convicted of one charge, which was for the murder of an eleven month old boy. In San Antonio in 1981, she pleaded guilty to the murder of the boy (Elkind). There were five other known victims that ranged in age from three months to two years old. Many of them happened while she was working at a San Antonio Charity Hospital. Many question why she was even able to get jobs elsewhere after being fired from other places for crude reasons. Many that worked with her thought she was very dark and scary. It has also come known that she was also very inappropriate and insensitive to not only patients but also coworkers at her previous jobs (Elkind). During the court session, she watched and remained completely emotionless as the judge and family members of the victims assailed her for her crimes. One quote from the judge declared that Jones’ life sentence “doesn’t come close to what you did to these families and the tragedy that you caused. You took God’s little precious gift: babies, defenseless, innocent. I truly believe your ultimate judgement is in the next life.” (Elkind).
