Clinical Application Paper Clinical Application Paper During Mental Health clinical rotation I was able to see a variety of mental illnesses. Some of the patients looked absolutely normal in appearance, while others were able to be identified as having some sort of mental illness. These patients were all very unique in their own way. Although we learned about these different facilities, the main two types of facilities I became familiar with were the SNFs and RCFEs. Although both are care facilities, they each serve different populations and have different requirements they need to meet.

Some nurses let me take vital signs and help them assess a resident. I shadowed four different registered nurses and the Director of Nursing. One of the days I was there I helped an RN review psychology consults.

Even as a young child, my dream career has been a family doctor. When I was three, I wanted to be a doctor with my mother as my nurse, and we would carpool to work together every day. Now that I am older and wiser, my reasoning behind wanting to fulfill my dream and become a general practitioner has changed drastically. Personally, I want to be a general practitioner because I have a huge interest in medicine and I want to be able to better my community. My personal skills match the suggested skills for this career.

I arrived at Hospice around 0750. I gave the name of our contact, and she showed me where I needed to go. There was a little confusion with who I was going to go with, so I waited outside the office until they were able to figure it out. I ended up getting placed with a lady named Judy and she was very helpful throughout the day. We sat in her office until nine and she just asked me questions about myself, like where I was from and what kind of nursing I was interested in going into.
My clinical assignment for my spring semester of junior year is at Misericordia University. At Misericordia University I do not technically have an assigned sport in which I will be working with for the entire semester. I am looking forward to this upcoming semester because I feel like it is going to be different than at King’s College. This semester I will be able to work with a wide variety of sports teams and athletes, compared to only being assigned to one specific team, as I was last semester with the men’s soccer team.
