A person interested in a career in psychology has numerous options to choose from in regards to the area of psychology in which they wish to work. One specific area, pediatric psychology, deals primarily with the psychological and physical development, the health and illness issues, and the emotional issues that affect children and adolescents along with their families.[ CITATION Flo \l 1033 ] As a pediatric psychologist, a person would analyze children and their families and work with adolescents to guide them in making logical plans that may help them accomplish both short-term as well as long-term goals.

Many pediatric psychologists will conduct research studies that focus on behavior or on the prevention of medical conditions.
