The first 2 years of medical school may seem like a repeat of college, because it is an overview of certain courses like biology, anatomy, chemistry, neuroanatomy, and other courses. Though in the 2nd year medical students might take courses that are more focused on the clinical sciences aspect (Quality Education and Jobs). They also might begin their hands on experience with patients. In the 3rd and 4th years of medical school, a specialty area should already be chosen. Once chosen students will take coursework and participate in clinical rotations designed to strengthen their knowledge and training in their specialty of choice (Santiago). After medical school is completed the students will enter, what is called, their pediatric residency. This is a 3-year program in a hospital where students will work with patients and gain real-world experience (Quality Education and Jobs). After residency is completed your goal of becoming a pediatrician has been reached. You are now officially an attending. The work hours for a pediatrician can be very spontaneous, never set in stone, unless they work in their own private business. These hours usually range from 9:00am to 5:00pm (Santiago). Pediatricians in an office setting usually work solo or with a fellow pediatrician. Pediatricians who work in a hospital setting, are the ones who never have a consistent schedule.
