When working with children it is important that practitioners know that they have a duty of care towards them and the safety of the children is of paramount. According to the UN convention on the rights of the child (1989): children have the right to learn and develop, they have the right to be protected from harm and make choices. Children learn and develop by making choices, exploring and experimenting within the environment that surrounds them but they do not always posses the skill and judgement to make safe choices and decisions at all times. Therefore it is the responsibility of the practitioner to identify any potential dangers, and make the decision on when it is safe to allow the child to undertake an activity or make a decision.
Additionally, a pediatrician is a medical practitioner specializing in children and their diseases. As a pediatrician some of the major work responsibilities include working with other patients’ parents or guardians, you have to do routine check-ups also, diagnosing, and treating children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses. Other responsibilities that are important, but not often do the doctors see their pacientes, the emotional involvement in some of their lives and the pleasure that comes from the children that comes to the doctor and gets better throughout the year. Pediatricians’ pay varies state by state, but the starting salary in the General Hospitals is $145k per year.
My overall thoughts of this project were a little negative at first, if I’m being honest. I didn’t like the idea of having to find a person to shadow, follow them around for about eight hours, and then write a research paper about my it. But, by the time the first shadowing was over, I was excited to go back. I observed great things and learned a lot. My final thoughts now are great.

This essay explains a critical incident that occurred on the pediatric emergency room, on my first week on the unit as a nurse technician, the incident relates to pediatric patients that range from three days old to fifteen years of age. The patient that fell during the fall was six- year old patient that had a increase of drowsy from pharmological treatment, which caused an increased risk for falls. In the Emergency department falls happen due to stretcher side rails up not being up while transporting or leaving patients unattended. As a nurse technician in the pediatric emergency department, I feel it is imperative to ensure patient safety. The age groups that are being seen pose an increase for falls.
Every setting must to have a health and safety policies and procedures and there must to a regular risk assessment. Every early years settings must to keep a record of all accidents, incidents and emergence and any serious accidents, incidents and emergences must to be reported to Ofsted. There must to be a staff member that is trained in paediatric first aid at every session.

Pediatricians have one of the toughest jobs in the world for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, it’s never nice to see anybody ill, least of all a child. It’s heartbreaking to be confronted with an ailing toddler and know you’re the only person who can help them. Secondly, children tend to shout and scream and be everything other than cooperative when they are brought to the doctor. They react in much the same way a cat does when brought to a vet.
To do that it is important that we understand each child’s health needs, so that we can give them appropriate supports. Supports including regular contact and communication with children’s parents or carer, at the same time we also need to ensure all the children health or personal information are remain confidentially in order to protect children and their family right of privacy. For example, make sure related information are not talking in a public place, but invite parents or children to discuss the topic in a quite staff office. Apart from that we need to understand the setting policies and procedures to implement appropriate practice when either administer medicine or support other to do so. Such as, ensuring check the parent or guardian consent form, check the date on the medicine, the packaging, the name on medicine and the dose of medicine should be given to the child.
