1. Introduction In child care centre, there are a lot of elements in caring for the children and one of the most basic and important element is to ensure their safety and well-being. As a child care teacher, I am responsible to highlight on good practices and look into the physical environment and safety factors to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children. Hence, child care teachers have to be well-equipped with the skills and knowledge in areas of health, safety and nutrition. 2. Key findings and Implications 2.1 Standard Operating Procedure As observed in my child care centre, teachers are cautious when it comes to monitoring children’s temperature upon arrival to the centre, they will look out for ulcers and blisters using torch light, and sanitize the children’s hand before they enter into the premises. Showing photographs of food that they have or have not seen before and reading stories about food can also create knowledge of new food in the children’s mind. As a result, the children learn that there are different types of food, their knowledge of food will enrich and new knowledge of food will begin to form. According to Bronfenbrenner, he developed the ecological theory explaining how everything in a child and the environment affects their growth and development. He divided the ecological theory into five systems and one of the systems is called the microsystem. The children’s microsystems include face-to-face interactions that a child has in his/her immediate setting, such as child care centre. The interaction between a teacher and a child also forms a microsystem. Therefore, it is important for child care teachers to be a role model to the children in areas of health, safety and nutrition. 4.
