A serial killer is a person who murders three or more people. There are many serial killers in the world, and they are sick people. Most of the time something horrific happens in their life to turn them into a killer. Serial killers usually get a high from killing others and get addicted to it just like anything else. Many people who kill only do it to forget the pain they feel every day. They want other people to go through the same kind of pain. One serial killer that really stands out to me is Donald Gaskins also known as The Hitchhikers’ Killer. Donald Gaskins was born on March 13, 1933 in Florence County, South Carolina. At an early age, Gaskins was teased and given the nickname “Pee Wee” because of him having a small body frame. Violence and ridicule was always apart of Gaskins life. He was hurt at home by his step father and always picked on and got into many fights with kids at school. Gaskins was introduced to many men in his early childhood. His mother had many boyfriends. During this time, Gaskins became friends with 23-year-old unwed Doreen Dempsey. She was the mother of a two-year-old infant girl. When she was leaving town, she accepted a ride with Gaskins. He did not take her to the bus station. He took her to the woods and raped and murdered her. He then sodomized and killer her baby. He buried them together in a shallow grave. In 1972, Gaskins began to get paid to murder people. He was paid $1.500 to murder Silias Yates. He completed his task and buried this man in the local woods. Diane Neely and her boyfriend knew about Yates and three other hitchhikers Gaskins had killed. Gaskins made a deal to pay them $5,00 to keep the quiet.
