Different elements and devices are used to create types of writing to make the reader more interested. Authors everywhere use different elements and devices to make their writing more fascinating. The elements and devices make the writing more understandable and greater. Rick Riordan is one of the authors who use devices and elements in their writing. “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” is one of Riordan’s books which he uses devices and elements into his writing to make it sound more realistic and absorbing. “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” is about three friends who go through many obstacles to save their friend and Thalia’s tree. Throughout the novel, the author uses point of view, semantics, and historical context to make his writing more valuable.

Point of view can be used three different ways, which are first, second, and third person. Riordan uses first person in his writing for the readers to see Percy’s perspective. In the novel, it states, “ I wondered again why she had such a grudge against Cyclopes. There was something she wasn’t telling me” (pg. 108). The quote shows the reader Percy’s thoughts. By reading this, the reader may think that Annabeth wants to go to her actual home by swimming. Also, by implying “tries” the reader may think that someone or something is holding her back. But when it says “Swim Home”, it means that she wants to become wiser by hearing the singing of the sirens. The singing of the sirens will give her the truth of her true desire. The truth about herself, that she didn 't even know. (Pg. 192) Annabeth thinks that becoming wiser will give her a better life of knowing herself. This is what she considers home for her. People may think about something before they know it, which later on they will get what the true meaning
