Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky describes a young and awkward teen, Charlie, surviving high school with the help of his friends Sam and Patrick. He sends letters to a random person he found in a phone book and he writes about what he did that day, big events and twisted and dark past. He also go through the failures of life like relationship between friends and a girlfriend and he also describes other people's failure vary from his Mom to his friend Patrick. Through his descriptions you find that people react to failure in many ways including of being depressed, violence or anger, determination, and some people just brush the failure off depending on the situation. Many times throughout the book Charlie's reacts the same way and rarely strays from that path. For instance in part one his english teacher gives him extra books and assignments because his teacher ,Bill, thinks Charlie is much more talented than the other students. On the one of the first assignments giving to him “Bill gave me a C on my To Kill a Mockingbird essay because he said that I run my sentences together. I am trying now to practice not to so that.” This shows that failures in his school work instead of being depressed or angry at the teacher for giving him a C he works over and over again on his mistake so that he doesn’t make it again. This a perfect representation of Charlie’s and why his grades are so good in school however he also reacts the same in his personal life. For Instance, after his girlfriend Mary Elizabeth breaks up with him because he kissed his friend Sam instead her after he was told to kiss the prettiest girl at the party. This caused to lose her and all of his friends because of the stupid mistake, however Charlie didn’t just give up a week later he called Mary Elizabeth and said “ I’d been listening to the record every night and reading the e. E. cummings book.” However she only replied with a “It’s too late, Charlie.” This helps shows his character as someone who never gives up no matter how bad the
