Perseverance: Practitioner Or Developer?

Do you give up when the going gets tough? Someone who gives up when times get hard or uncomfortable will never actually achieve anything truly great. Perseverance is a requirement for greatness. Perseverance is going through those difficult periods without quitting. In my opinion, a person who exemplifies perseverance is Sid Meier. Sid Meier is the developer, the brains, the man behind the Civilization games, an extremely popular historical strategy game. Sid founded Microprose early on in his career. He also is the founder of Firaxis studios and holds a leading position in the company, the game development studio behind the Civilization games. Creating games for people to enjoy and become fans of your work. That is really what game development is all about. I am committed to becoming a superb game developer and I plan to use some of the same perseverance methods that Sid Meier used in his career to become successful. Whenever times get difficult I will look to my fans, family, and friends to motivate me through the hard times. I will make the best of what I am given and always find a positive outlook on the situation whether or not it is a dire situation or not. Just like my role model does. During an interview about the new Sid Meier game, Dennis Shirk said, "The great thing about our publisher is that they let us continue to improve the game well after release, through the expansions, through multiple balance patches and adding additional content" (Peckham, 2014, para. 25). This shows that Sid and his development team go beyond the scope of just releasing games but also improving upon them. While talking about Sid Meier’s games and how decisions make games interesting, Alexander (2012) stated that there are different types of players and to create an effective game developers must understand the different types (para. 19).
