In all four years of my high school experience, chorus was an extra-curricular activity I have been involved in. My freshman year, I was only in the Singer’s class; the class for beginners. If you wanted to be in the elite chorus group, you have to complete the Singers class. My sophomore year, I was finally in Concert Choir. I was surrounded by all the top singers in the school. All of them knew the basics of music theory as I felt like I knew very little. I had to have known a diminutive amount of music theory to be in Concert Choir right? My high school chorus teacher, Mr. Hall, connects to his students on an emotional level. Before teaching us music, he shows us that he cares. One way I know my teacher cares is that he focuses on each chorus student individually. You can be great in a group and great as an individual as well. My sophomore year, I auditioned for the 2016 SC All-State chorus. I ended up not earning a spot, but that only made me want to work harder for my spot in the honor choir the following year. The goal of this program is to encourage high achieving students with leadership skills to consider teaching as their future career. I interned at my middle school with Mrs. Brockington who was once my chorus teacher as well. Middle schoolers can be difficult to deal with because of the cognitive and behavioral changes, but it did teach me patience. I learned how to manage a classroom, relate to students, and how to teach due to a student’s learning style. During my field experience, I also taught my students lessons. It felt so natural to teach these lessons. It is such a wonderful feeling to have students pay attention to you material you are teaching and understand it. After the first lesson I realized that teaching is my future
