When building a successful choral program, one must do their paperwork based on careful planning and management. Schools are a business that is run with procedures and routines. A new teacher should not be afraid to ask questions about the handbook or other questions in general. Choral directors must first figure out the schedule of the school, for example, some schools divide there days into six to eight periods with about forty to fifty minutes each where they meet daily or once a week. If a school has an eight-day schedule students can sign up for more than one music class. Block scheduling, on the other hand, has four periods a day, about ninety minutes for each block. In the senior high school choral curriculum, some school have two choirs, one auditioned and the other volunteer. Teachers should pay attention to the feeders schools, whose students are more likely to continue choir. There are several high school choirs that students can participate in either by audition or a choir of their choice. Some of the most common choirs are concert choir, chamber singers, a mixed choir, and choral union. Other include a mixture, such as a men’s and women’s choir, show choirs, small groups, such as trios, quartets, and octets, treble choir, ninth grade missed choirs, broadway musical shows, voice lesson, individual lessons, and honors and festival choirs. In junior, or middle, schools, a mixed choir is most recommended. Middle school boys and girls, who are hitting puberty and are self conscious, so, a separate chorus could be an option. Thus, the girls could meet a certain days and the boys meet on others, then at the end of the week they sing together. The other choirs include show choir, musical chorus, honors and festive choirs. Elementary school, however, have the fastest growing program. Elementary school should have two separate programs, one auditioned, the other volunteer, however, all students should have the same opportunity to sing in a group. In groups in elementary schools are, children’s choir and musical
