The hardest thing a person might face is moving to a different country. This was one of the hardest phases of my life, it was full of surprises and difficulties. I was born in a small city in India. When I was 7 years old, I found out that we were moving to a different country, the United States. I was excited about it, but I was also scared. I was scared of what would happen, what would the people be like, will I make any new friends and the list just went on and on. The day we were supposed to catch the flight I would hide because my fears had dominated the excitement and I did not want to leave everything behind. The culture in India wasn’t similar and was very different from the culture in America. People practice different religions in America. In India, most people are Hindus and in America most people are Christians. We have temples in India whereas America has churches. They believe in different gods. Thankfully, in America, there are Indians who decided to make a temple so the Indian community can come together and pray. Another major culture difference were the festivals. Festivals in India are very unique and diverse. We have the festival of lights, called Diwali. During this festival, there are a lot of fireworks happening and lots of food being made. Another festival is Navratri in which people dance in coordinated steps in a circle and this festival occurs for nine days. These festivals hold special memories and whenever these festivals occur, I am also thinking of going to my home country just to celebrate them. Overall, festivals in India are different related to the American festivals.
