Considering the fact that I have lived on eastern long island all my life, it would be thought that I’ve been to all the wildlife refuges possible. Strangely enough, I have never even heard of the “Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge” right off of Noyack Road. This is an upsetting thing after our hike there, it is one of the best refuges I’ve been to in a very long time. The paths are well marked, the bridges and walk ways are well made also the fact that you can literally have wild birds eat out of your hand is amazing. Although this didn’t happen, I’ve been told not just on the hike but by friends that the squirrels and chipmunks will eat out of your hand as well.
In my 5 years with the company I was cross-trained in multiple positions to fit the company’s needs. As a Veterinary Technician, I showcased my veterinary skillset daily such as diagnostic work for hospitalization, anesthesia monitoring, and administrating medication. As a Receptionist & Client Services Associate, I performed administrative office duties such as inputting information of health records and billing into the company database all in a fast paced environment.
I became an FFA Officer at the be of my sophomore year. It happened like this. It was the day of our chapter FFA banquet, the banquet had began, people started filling in and I started to get so nervous. It was in the commons or lunch room of our high school. This was my first ever FFA banquet, besides our area one.
The FBI is considered by many to be an elite job, filled with the top echelon of society. With jobs ranging from counterterrorism to cyber crime; violent crimes to drug crimes, the FBI deals with it all. This job is not for the faint of heart; those who have no drive or motivation will not succeed in this career path and would find it difficult to excel within this prestigious profession. The entry process in and of itself is grueling and many are unable to meet the high standards set by the FBI. Despite the seemingly impossible task of getting chosen as a special agent, those who can succeed in such a profession find themselves ahead in the world with many options open to them.
At Miller Children Hospital in Long Beach I have developed certain skills that are necessary in order to go into the Human Services Career. At Miller I have learned how to communicate with different people, learn how to take things not seriously, and how to not let my emotions get in the way of assisting children and family. When I go back and think about my first semester of internship I remember how difficult it was to open up to different people and build rapport with them. I remember being quite, nervous, and questioning my abilities in the Human Service career. Throughout my internship I have become more confident I am able to open up to people without being intimidated.
Healthcare was an unplanned career for me. I am not one of those people who knew that I was going into healthcare from an early age. I spent twelve years in and out of the foster care system and worked as a warehouse laborer. Did I even have the opportunity to consider my passion at all? I was asked, “Where are you going from here?
The first time I attended college I was very young; I was motivated to get my criminal justice career started. I thought I was on my way. I thought that there was no way I could’ve been stopped. Times took a turn for the worst or so I thought. The first thing that happened was that my father had fallen ill.
However, due to budget cuts expected to the national park system, it will be very hard to find a job in the field with only 2% growth expected in the next ten years (Wildlife and Game Officer). Becoming a wildlife officer can be very beneficial to your bank account, however, it will be very hard to find a job in that
For my Diverse Field Experience this semester, I spent fifteen hours at the Mclean County Juvenile Detention Center. This particular center was occupied by about 8-14 juveniles at a time, all depending on court dates and occupancy of other nearby detention centers. This center usually had 3 staff members working the shift every time I went, which was seven to nine on weekday afternoons. I was intrigued to go to at this time because I thought it would be the time of the day were the juveniles had no school work or other obligations to do while I was there. I wanted to see what they liked to do in the free time before bed, the only stipulation being mandatory snack time at eight pm.
On Saturday, September 9th, I went to the Enabling Aquatics session at the YMCA in Santa Rosa. I went from 10:15 to 12:40. When I first got to the YMCA I met up with the main coordinator, Kelly, who gave us a tour of the YMCA on where to go and where to sign in when we first arrive. We got in our bathing suits and then we went into the therapy pool (which is a 4 feet deep and 95 degrees), filled with volunteers and students who had disabilities which ranged from autism to cerebral palsy to someone with physical deficiencies. I have worked with children who had disabilities in the past but I haven’t worked as much with adults.
I began college in 2014 at the age of 58 years-old to change my area of employment and do something that is far more interesting to me, working within the social services field. I realize the fact I was brought up by two dysfunctional, abusive parents in a chaotic home lead me to search out that same type of familiar relationship when I left home at the age of seventeen. In short, I married a domestic violence abuser and alcoholic when I was 19 years-old and had 5 children. Ten years into the marriage, when I had finally reached the end of my rope, a local police officer helped me to obtain a Protection from Abuse order and removed my husband from the home. This era was the birth of the Protection from Abuse orders and for me and this new
I researched the career of a conservation officer. I have always wanted to do an outdoors job, and I wanted to learn more about this career. Do you ever think what would happen if conservation officers weren’t around. It would be a disaster ,most people don’t realize how much they do to keep the wildlife. We depend on the wildlife to live our everyday lives whether you realize it or not.
Every year graduating seniors are stuck with a huge decision, they have to decide what they want to do with the rest of their lives. After extensive research and interviewing Officer Brian Jack, a Fish and Game Officer and Researcher, I have decided that after high school I would like to pursue a career in the Fish and Game Department as a Fish and Game Officer. I have always loved to be outdoors and I love to interact with people and animals. Being in the outdoors has always been a passion of mine and I love hunting and fishing. Becoming a Fish and Game Officer will not only allow me to be surrounded by the outdoors but it will also allow me to be able to speak with and communicate with other people that share the same passion of the outdoors
An Allegory is an Allegory is an Allegory The dripping sound of candlewax to the clean floors was only consistent sound that the prisoners heard. The faint candle light kept them occupied with images of the world, their world. It was noon for the guards they looked over the waves of the “people” one of the guards shouted: “9/11 didn't happen!” With this, a wave of speech flowed out from the stone cubicles of the prisoners: “Yes it did!”
On the 5th and 6th of february 2016 I went hunting for the first time I was thinking what it was going to be like and I was scared because I have seen a deer stand and they are very high. At first Steve and I both overslept so we left at 5:00 instead of 4:00 to go hunting. The first thing we do is breakfast then shower then we get unscented clothes on. Then we go to the place we are hunting at and put on camouflage clothes when we get where we are hunting you need to be very quiet.
