I researched the career of a conservation officer. I have always wanted to do an outdoors job, and I wanted to learn more about this career. Do you ever think what would happen if conservation officers weren’t around. It would be a disaster ,most people don’t realize how much they do to keep the wildlife. We depend on the wildlife to live our everyday lives whether you realize it or not. They help protect the wildlife we depend on and make the world a better place for animals and people ("Home."). I have done a lot of research on this career and realized that I am interested in this career. You get an additional 10 points if you were in the military. When I conducted my Interview with Greg Pochron a Conservation officer he said “ If I could do it again he would of gone to the military right after high school to get those bonus points”. He also stated “ I scored higher than everyone once but didn’t get the interview because with those points it made other scores higher even though he did better”. (Pochron, Greg. "Career Interview." Personal interview. 20 Dec. 2016) He said it was frustrating to not get an interview when having the highest score. He finally got interview which is next step. Once you pass interview then you do more testing. You have to complete a mental, physical, and swim test (“Becoming a Wildlife Conservation Officer."). After those you get offered a job and go off to training. First you go to a training that teach shooting and the law that you have to know and enforce. It also teaches you what you have the jurisdiction to do. It tells you the in’s and out of the law enforcement part of the job. This training lasts 6 months. You are paid and given a place to live while completing the training. After you have completed this training you have to go to one mre training program. This training program is with the fish and boat commission. The do all sorts of boating training and water rescue drills to prepare themselves if the situation would ever occur out in the field. This program also teaches people how to take care of animals and safely remove them if needed. This training is also 6 months and and pays as well it not much but with them providing housing and some of the meals it is enough to get by. After you complete this training as well you are ready to start you career. You then figure out which areas are open and the bid on them, not with money but you do use your seniority. If you get a job the you have to live somewhere in the area you patrol. This means you have to be willing to move,
