In doing so, Hammer expertly highlights Jess’ constant need to establish a home of acceptance to combat the violence she faces throughout the novel. Scars are something that many people are familiar with. Whether it is a physical scar or a mental scar, both significantly impact the lives of those with them. In the novel Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi scars are mentioned often and are one of the central motifs throughout the novel. Through the motif of scars, Gysai conveys the message that scars cause demeaning assumptions to be made about people who have them. Additionally, Gysai shares that scars can lead to people becoming ashamed about their scars, and they resonate throughout generations even if they do not have scars themselves.
Henry had to jump this fence and ripped a piece of his jeans where his butt was. and I went out to a fancy steakhouse called “Big Rob’s Steakhouse.” That had a bull to ride and free, peanuts and salad once you sit down. That night they decided Frank was gonna moved out of his apartment in Texas that was only 1 story, dirt floors and no heat nor air-conditioning move in with Sandy in what he called, “Paradise.” Because it had 3-stories, made of brick, its own garden, 2 barns,a tracter, a chandelier in the dining room, a basketball and tennis court and a tracter. To: The Girl With Bruises on Her Heart After struggling with what I was going to even write about for a week or so, I decided to take the advice from one of the essays I read in class called “How to Write an Essay”. Basically, it told me not to overthink and a burst of inspiration will magically come to me. Surprisingly enough, this works. Because here I am writing my essay a week before it’s due.
# The Forge *Challenges make you stronger! * I came across this amazing tool when I was traveling across my state by bike. No way I could afford to stay in hotels each day, so I had to sleep outside or knock on the doors of random people to sleep in their yards (stressful and humbling). Between the physical exhaustion, the dam bugs, and having to face my fear of talking to strangers, it was a challenge, no doubt.
I met my ex at the skating rink in Stevensville. I was with two of my friends and they were talking to four girls. My friends came over by me and said, “Go get on the light skin girl.” When I went to the table where she was sitting, I begin asking her simple questions like what is your name, how old are you, and what school do you go to. But she was acting like she didn’t want to talk, and her friend was like she’s a shy girl.
