Around April of 2015 while I was still in high school, I received a letter from the University of Mississippi. The letter contained information about me being offered a scholarship called Chancellor’s Leadership. The letter said that I was being offered the scholarship because of my outstanding career as a leader in high school, and I would have to be enrolled in the class, Chancellor’s Leadership, that meets Tuesdays from 6 o’clock pm to 7 o’clock pm. Bill Courtney. Mr. Courtney is famous for the movie Undefeated. He is the most hilarious person that I have ever had to listen to a lecture from. He started out talking about how gorgeous his wife was so to keep her he began to have kids so that she would not leave him. He finally lead up to him starting his own business and coaching the poor high school football team, Manassas, who had only won four games in 10 years. His philosophy was to get his football team to buy into good life goals and football would follow, but his side of the team was not following. The other coach told him that the boys were trying to figure out if he was a turkey person. With this came his points of leadership; do not be a turkey person, do not be in vacuum, and always be real. He figured out that he was only coaching and promoting the football team because it made him look good when he did not know that most of his players were sleeping in tubs at night to dodge bullets and getting beat up because of leaving their gangs to play football for him. Mr. Courtney told us to get out of a vacuum because we were only in motion and not advancing. The vacuum was a synonym for always being in the comfort zone and not branching out to get different perspectives from others who are not like yourself. Mr. Courtney’s last point was to always keep it real and his wife taught him that when he was hugging and acting like he was friends with George Clooney on the red carpet. Mr. Courtney said that with keeping it real do not forget where you come from and do not forget who was there when you were at the lowest point. Mr. Courtney’s three points really made me think about the world as being a vacuum and
