This whole adventure started at a Goodwill. I was out with my dad killing time looking for deals on camping equipment. My dad is the type that likes to know what he has to work with. He is a tall skinny man with red hair that is starting to fade. I am of similar build with brown hair. We both enjoy messing around with computers and building things. I saw an mindflex for $10 very cheap for a device that measured brain waves. I saw a awesome opportunity. “Dad will you please buy me this Mindflex so I can try to hack it?” I asked with hope. “Sure” he said We took the Mindflex to the counter and checked out. Once we got home, I took it out of the box it had two parts, the headband and the base. The base was a shallow cylinder shape, And the headband was elastic with two boxes on the …show more content…
A lot of drilling and a few hours later I finally had it open. There wasn't much to it, One circuit board with the speakers attached with a few LEDs. My goal was to be able to hook my arduino up to the mindflex, and write some simple code to spit out some data when it was connected to the headset. For those of you who don’t know that a arduino is, it is a computer the size of a credit card. A similar kind of hardware is what's in a Iphone. After a few hours of troubleshooting and trying to connect my arduino. I found a similar project someone did online but they were working with the headset instead of the base. This gave me a new sense of opportunity. So I decided to open up the headset instead of the base. It was much easier to open, just a few screws. An easy task compared to the base. On one side there was the batteries the other side consisted of one board and a few LEDs. I looked at the internet for a breakdown of the headset. What I found astonished me. The hardware inside was $100 material it was what the big shots use. At this time it was around 11:00 at night I had to go to
