When the roll is called up yonder is being chanted by thousands of mouths all packed into a stadium like building. Some people raise their hands in the air swaying back and forth. One man in the audience is playing a saxophone and he bumps into several people as he honks out a sweet simple tune. But few people take notice of the saxophonist because they are fixed on the man leading the ceremony.
Upon meeting me, not many people know that I am a first generation American. However, they are usually interested in the orgin of my last name. I am in fact Ukranian. Both my parents and my older sister were born in Ukraine. They immigrated to America in 1992 because of religious persecution that they were facing.
A Generous America The America I believe in has been erased by mankind's selfishness. It’s a nation where we can be proud to sing home of the brave. I want to be proud, but it is hard when I turn on the news and see all these people who are in poverty. We turn our cheek because it is not us in trouble, but I cannot help but wonder: Why are we so disgusted by taxes when we have the money to pay them? Why do we turn people away at the door because we are scared of what they might be?
The new American hero (Just a quick look) Can you see the handsome young man sitting by my side, driving through the forest, behind the wheel of his decadent truck? Yes. I would trust him with my life (sip of vodka).
America’s gift to our generation, some people may say a wealthy country or a strong military or maybe even a strong justice system. I don’t disagree with them about that all of those are all very good answers and ideas but what I think the country’s greatest gift to us is freedom. Since the beginning of America’s history there was at least one group that was not free whether it was the 13 colonies being under British power the Native Americans being forced to live in reservations or the Slaves being taken from Africa and forced to work we were not free there wasn’t true freedom in America until the late 1800’s when slavery was abolished. Now that all Citizens of America are free to practice any religion to express themselves and the right
I used to have this grudges in my heart when everything go hard that would made me wanted to blame my parent. But I can’t because I was not raise to think that way. When I come to America, I was eleven years old and no one asked me if I wanted to come it just happen in a second. I was in a cold place with extended family that I never met before and that one person who raise me and made me feel secure was still back in the country. I had to lived months without her and next thing you know I adapted and convince myself they are doing this because the wanted the best for me.
In America we have a lot of freedoms. I think that us Americans don't realize how lucky we are to have the things we have and i think we need to be more aware of that. We are free to do most things we want, and we each need to be thankful for our lives as Americans. Also we need to be unique in our own ways. We all need to be leaders and not followers.
I know that everyday we are all working to provide the best ground for our further generations to step on. I am happy to say that America’s greatest gift to my generation today is the freedom that allows each American to reach their best
Every day, every person is faced with a challenge, small conflicts that enable them from moving forward, and each day, each innovative person, finds a way to overcome their obstacles and move forward. If every person, every day, moved passed these obstacles, solved problems and worked together, then we would overcome the conflicts, the feuds, and create resolutions that better every individual in our country’s future. When considering the future, we tend to think about ourselves initially, and then close family and friends, but we never take a step back to look at the big picture, to clearly envision life for everyone as a whole in this country and what was done to be in those conditions. Typically Every day, every person is faced with a challenge, diminutive conflicts that enable them from moving forward, and each day, each innovative person, finds a way to overcome their obstacles and move forward.
To me, there are many gifts that America has given to you and I. These gifts all might be taken for granted and not acknowledged by all of us, but they all make huge impacts in how we live our lives. These gifts can be our freedoms, our land, and our laws. Although these are all grand, I think that the biggest gift of all is being able to call all of these gifts ours. It is a gift being able to do this because we are able to live free lives, believe in what we like, and say what we like.
The first eight years of my life, I spent in India where I was born. Growing up I was constantly reminded by my parents that I needed to make them proud by getting a good job and living a good lifestyle. They told me this because they did not want to see me live a hard life like they did. When I was nine years old, I moved from India to the United States of America. The reason why I moved to America was not because I was living a bad life in India, it was so that I could have a better education and more opportunities in life.
As a teenager moving to a new country with a different culture, different language, and being thousands of miles away from everyone I grew up with was not an easy change, however, that was precisely what I did in January of 2013 when I came to the United States with my father. My whole world changed since, and shaped my way of thinking. From learning English, adjusting to a new culture, experiencing my first snow and finding my way in my new country, my life has been an exciting adventure. My parents brought me to America almost 5 years ago to have a better life, and to get a better education.
Being enrolled at the University of Davis is a dream come true. I am able to study to become a Mechanical Engineer, something I am passionate about and willing to work hard for. However, my current progress does not reflect my dedication nor does it show my potential. I did not meet the requirements to pass my calculus class, because I did not get the proper help I needed, which caused me to fall behind and resulted in my failure.
I was once called the Land of the Free. A country where everyone was created equal. My children had fought vigorously for me, and I returned them all that they desired. I offered them crops, lakes, and trees. They accepted my materials and made me the Home of the Brave.
My Journey to America Moving from Nigeria to the United States permanently feels great, but at the same time it is sad leaving some of your loved ones and family behind. There are many events in life, which can change one’s way of thinking. As for me, one of the major changes in my life occurred when I moved from Africa to America. This change has entirely affected my personality positively. Why?
