Personal Narrative Essay: Junior Class Treasurer

From a deep sleep I awoke feeling inspired, anxious, and optimistic, I had an epiphany that I should run for Junior Class Treasurer. Consequently, I just returned home from our school’s annual elite leadership retreat my sophomore year. While at the retreat, it became apparent that I wanted to partake in additional leadership opportunities and explore my potential. After all, serving on student senate for two years convinced me to step up and encounter a new challenge. I cherished my time participating in senate however; I was determined to expand my involvement in my school and community. So, I did it, I went out on a limb and ran. To campaign, I made posters and hung them in various locations around the school; I gave a speech explaining how I’d be a proficient and worthy candidate for Junior Class Treasurer. Thankfully, I made it to the second round; I was as relieved as a zebra that outran a lion. Now, the only thing standing between me and the chance to become Junior Class Treasurer was one of my classmates. On May 18th, 2015 I nervously awaited the afterschool announcements for the reveal of the results. My heart was racing, my palms were sweating, and the hair on my arms was standing. I impatiently waited feeling nauseous. It was soon announced and what I had feared would happen, did. The dreadful news struck my soul. I lost, I did not become treasurer. Nevertheless, I did receive the opportunity to become Junior Class Student Relations Coordinator since I had the second most votes. I was deflated, even so, I was not going to let it get the best of me or ruin my junior year.
