The purpose behind this essay is to spark the minds of readers to take action on obesity. This growing problem of obesity in America will not be solved by taking ridiculous measures, such as ceasing the sale of clothing items above the size medium. I enhanced the effect of this piece by satirizing the topic and including satirical devices such as comparison, imagery, and humor. By comparing the healthy versus obese people to a seesaw, readers can now imagine this seesaw tipping back and forth as a representation of health among Americans. While listing ideas considered in reality but turned down in this essay, I mention the elimination of soda cups the size of a person’s swimming pool.
Research has it that nearly two-thirds of Americans are overweight or rather obese. As campaign to sensitize the masses against habits that might otherwise lead to rise in victims affected by obese conditions is being aired by medics, the media and the rational public, it is evident that there is elevated prevalence of obesity in the United States which has since doubled the initial number of the previous decades. It is a matter of urgency and it calls for stringent measures to curb this condition. Before totally embarking on the topic of what causes obesity and ways of dealing with it, it is pertinent to understand the meaning of being overweight. Medics have the capacity of classifying people based on their weights and different classifications
Whichever way the outcome of obesity decides to turn in American, there is one industry that would always benefit from people being obese. This industry is known as the American Health Care industry. No matter where the obesity epidemic may lead us, rather it increases or decreases, these companies will profit no matter what. On one end, health companies rack up big bucks in the treatment of obese patients. This is due to the constant medical visits, the frequent use of medications, and the all-around health issues, that all derive from people being overweight.

Quinn Johnson Mr. Griner College Comp. 2 April 17th Obesity Rates In America Obesity rates in America are very high (around one-third of the current population) and are only heading upward every year. Obesity leads to many health issues. Some of these health issues include heart disease, strokes, and even diabetes.
In America, as a nation, there is currently a huge battle regarding the obesity problem being paced in the United States. Obesity is likely being caused by the increase in the amounts of unhealthy foods available in our local schools and supermarkets as well as the difference in price between the healthy foods and unhealthy foods and how the food industry works. This obesity problem in the United States has recently evolved and is progressively worsening as the time goes on. Throughout the use of many different articles, there is clear evidence that this problem will continue to worsen until an effort is made to make a change and educate all the American citizens of how much damage is actually occurring to their bodies. More often than not, Americans will be driving through their city and realize that they are hungry.
It has come to my attention that obesity has become a very large problem in America. It is a sad sight for sore eyes to walk down the street and see the mass population of the United States spilling out of their clothes. These people have done this to themselves and it’s time for the United States to take matters into its own hands and stop giving into those that just cannot stop eating. As I have been turning this over for some time, I have found a way to solve not only obesity, but also much of the hunger in America, all the while creating jobs. The solution is simple, and I guarantee you will not find many that would disagree with this proposal.
“He’s a little chubby, but he’s young he’ll grow out of it.” Many parents hear this about their children. American children are experiencing the biggest percentage of children obesity. One of the many reasons that children are experiencing such a high percentage of obesity is that they are drinking so many sugary drinks, whenever they want. Children are able to go to a store and purchase a sugary drink because it is the cheapest thing to buy.
The Economic Incentive to keep America Obese Accredited scientists and universities all agree on this fundamental idea: a caloric surplus results in weight gain and a caloric deficit results in weight loss. This idea is regarded by most Americans as fact and heavily supported by science. With this in consideration it is rather perplexing how 68% of americans are either overweight or obese. In aggregate Americans spend more than $60 billion annually on services and products that are advertised as weight loss promoters. There’s profit to be made either getting people fat or making them think think they are losing fat.
Obesity has reached new levels in recent years for “despite years of efforts to reduce obesity in America, including a major push by Michelle Obama, federal health officials reported Thursday that the share of Americans who were obese had not declined in recent years, and had edged up slightly.” (Tavernise ) The rise in obesity is matched by increasing controversy over who is ultimately responsible for keeping Americans healthy. Should the government step in and be the parent who forbids bad choices when it comes to eating? Or should every person determine their own path when it comes to nutrition and eating healthy?
When considering our society and the surrounding environment, it is not surprising that America is the fattest nation in the world. Around 40% of Americans have obesity which is a growing health risk. Every year, more and more Americans experience metabolic syndrome and obesity. The high cost of treating metabolic syndrome causes problems in the healthcare system. Obesity is caused by external factors such as fast food, technological advancement, and food costs.
The problem of obesity is enormous especially in America. I see overweight people everywhere I go. Some of my family members are obese and it has caused them some health problems. In a recent survey done at a community college in Southeastern Michigan, students were asked their opinions on the soda tax. 15 percent said they drink soda once a day, 21 percent said more than once a day, 30 percent said a few times a week, and 18 percent said a few times a year.
