Personal Narrative Essay On Why Peggy Is My Hero

When I was little, a hero was a Knight in Shining Armor, someone who saved a damsel in distress. A hero was Batman who beat up bad guys. A hero was my dad who protected people by putting bad guys in jail. Now all of those people are still heroes, but as I’ve grown more and more women have become heroes. I was never taught that girls weren't supposed to be heroes. I was never pressured into playing with Barbies. I just did. I was a feminine child and I am still quite feminine, but Barbie isn’t a considered a hero. Unconsciously I think I assumed most heroes were male. I liked Wonder Woman, but Batman was better. Now as a fifteen year old, the person who I think of when I think the word hero is not Batman, or Prince Charming. I think of Peggy Carter. …show more content…

The reason why Peggy is my hero doesn’t have much to do with her boyfriend who coincidently is my favorite hero. Peggy is a woman in the army in the 1940s. Women got the right to vote only twenty years prior. The forties were teeming with sexism. Yet, Peggy held her head high. Peggy seemed to miss the memo that women were not supposed to be dominant. She had no problem literally beating those ideas out of the men she was around. Peggy had no time for their misogyny and she would do all do all of this with sublime lipstick and not a hair out of place. That’s just the beginning. After, the war and after Cap goes down the ocean, Peggy works as the S.S.R. the Strategic Scientific Reserve. Now remember how important Peggy was. She was part of the Howling Commandos and went on missions with Captain America to stop Hydra. While at the S.S.R. they treat her like a secretary. She still managed to be a hero after she was treated with such chauvinism, she countless times helped with knowledge and connections. She never once was a damsel in distress. In one episode Agent Carter has been seeking justice for an old friend. In her efforts she has to occasionally fight her way out, and this is one of those
