I never would have expected something so serious to happen in a very short time. Basketball has been told to be a dangerous sport because it is so physical. I have played since third grade and haven’t stopped. I have not had an injury, due to a game or practice for basketball, throughout any of my playing years. Grateful is exactly what I was. My eighth grade year, was not as I planned. I did something so simple that turned into something so bad and it was just in a practice. It all happened so fast that I didn’t know what to do or what to think.
Basketball has always been my way of getting the best exercise possible for my body. I have always had a passion for playing. It is a sport that keeps you up and going. Every year I play, I pray very

I got up that morning, did my routine, and had mom take me to basketball practice. We did a lot of drills and ran through plays before the first period bell even rang for the high schoolers. Our practices last from 6:45 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. over at the high school. Most of the high school athletes come into the gym and wait around for the bell to ring. Well that morning, they were all in the gym and witnessed it. Towards the end of practice we were scrimmaging up and down. I was on one side of the court playing defense and I got the rebound after the ball was shot. I saw that I didn’t have an outlet (someone to throw it to), and so I decided to take it down the court myself. I started to dribble down and was able to get past the girl playing defense on me. As my knee began to give out, I heard the “POP!” My knee locked up on me so I couldn’t get up. Everyone in that gym witnessed me tearing my …show more content…
About a month and a half later, I had an MRI on my knee and finally found that I had torn my ACL. The doctor explained what an ACL was, which is a ligament in the knee that crosses from the underside of the femur to the top of the tibia. We scheduled surgery for December 22, 2014 and I dreaded every day up to it. Every time I heard the word surgery, it would make me cringe. I was a nervous wreck when they day finally came. We arrived at the Arkansas Surgical Center in Maumelle at six a.m. and waited patiently until it was my turn. They took me back around eleven and I had my surgery around twelve. Getting a new knee was my Christmas present. After surgery, the road to recovery was hard and very emotional. I had great days, good days, bad days, and sometimes even a mixture of all three. My recovery period lasted for seven months. I was released on July 4, 2015. When I say released, I mean I was able to get back to doing sports and any other activity I was restricted from doing. Which, if you think about it, this date was not too long ago. I am now back to doing everything I did before it all
