Failure for Moorestown girls lacrosse is not an option. This powerhouse lacrosse program had a winning streak of eighty-eight consecutive games. My sophomore year the program experienced their first loss in what seemed like forever. Continuously, the timer on the scoreboard got closer to triple zeros, everyone’s hearts went into their throats anticipating the end. The opposing team was up by one and were stalling the ball.
Normally the Anglo-American society discouraged Americans of having relations or interest in any Native ball game, but the sport of lacrosse was so interesting, the white men organized the game to their own standards. After a royal visit from the Prince of Wales to witness the game, a man by the name of William George Beers aspired to standardize and popularize lacrosse. He wrote all the rules and regulations that we see in modern lacrosse. At that time, lacrosse was played generally in a “box” as if a skating rink or hockey rink. Box lacrosse and field lacrosse games both have a duration of 60 minutes (4 quarters of 15 minutes) without pausing time for penalties and in between quarters.
Many people play lacrosse and many people play baseball but, how similar and how different are they? Baseball and lacrosse are very different because baseball uses a bat, and lacrosse uses a helmet, and pads, they are also similar because they both use a ball. Lacrosse is a really fun sport with many unique qualities. There are a few positions in lacrosse there are middy, centers, defensemen, and attack. Lacrosse has a lot of equipment, there is the helmet, stick, pads, cleats and other stuff specifically for the goalie.
Will Lacrosse Be More Diverse? Lacrosse is a rapidly growing sport across the country, but it largely remains a dominate white sport. According to the most recent N.C.A.A Study only about 1.9% of the division is African American leaving the other 98.1 all the other races, (mostly white). A majority of the teams have one to two players that are white but there are teams, like Cornell, that still have all white players.
Lacrosse is better than soccer because lacrosse is more active, lacrosse takes more skill, and lacrosse is growing back. Lacrosse is growing back, lacrosse used to be super popular in canada and in the United States. In the 1800 when the native americans would play lacrosse, there were over 1000 people per team, and the fields were about two miles long. The games would last up to two days, and they played with no pads. The game started to fall since football came, and it's now starting to grow back.
4.End up Sacrificing a Lot If you plan on playing lacrosse you have to be ready to sacrifice a lot of freedom. For example you will basically be spending all of Saturday or Sunday playing in lacrosse games. Also you use up almost all of your week playing lacrosse which starts right after the school day ends. 5.Lacrosse Keeps You Healthy Playing lacrosse helps you get your heart stronger.
Sean McCusker David Gonthier ITW-101-0304-SP23 2/11/2023 Lacrosse: The effect This story is about my life and how lacrosse has influenced me to this day. Before playing lacrosse, I was not committed to doing anything. I lacked discipline and it showed throughout my daily life. For example, during the years I was in elementary school I would be placed into low-skill level classes, goofing off, and having complete disregard for my future. It wasn’t until I started playing lacrosse that I saw how important it was to take academics seriously.
Reminiscing on my lacrosse days, I would not be the person I am today without that experience. By being involved in such a pivotal role, I gained maturity, leadership, time management, communication skills, and most importantly, confidence and learned how to believe in myself. To be an RA, it is essential to have all these. My time management skills I have thoroughly developed will help me balance school, outside activities, and the demands of an RA. Additionally, the maturity, leadership, communication skills I developed serving as a liaison between coaches, parents, and players will transfer to the RA job benefitting the hall director, other resident assistants, and the students.
The rules were simple, that the ball may not be touched by hand while throwing and catching the ball with netted rackets, trying to make it in the net for a goal. These rules were created by the tribes Seneca and Mohawks in the year of 1763. Back then they sometimes would use Lacrosse to toughen up young boys who were going to go fight for their country. In Lacrosse, there are only four positions to fill,
Lacrosse is a sport rapidly growing with many leagues and popularity. Lacrosse was a sport first named by the European settlers after coming across the Atlantic Ocean. Tribes in the Southeast, Western Great Lakes, and St. Lawrence Valley were the tribes who would usually play lacrosse. The game was originally called “stickball” by the
But loving lacrosse will never change for me. I have big dreams that I want to achieve in lacrosse, and I won’t let anyone or anything stop me from what I love
As you run down the field cradling the lacrosse ball in your stick, it feels like every other girl is barreling toward you at full speed. There is no better feeling, though, than to shoot the ball and watch it sail past the goalie into the net. Growing up in Baltimore, lacrosse is practically a religion. However, I never really felt any interest in lacrosse. In the Spring of my junior year, one of my friends begged me to try out for my high school’s lacrosse team.
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.
Most people my age have a passion for playing sports, but my passion in life is a little different than most. I grew up living on a farm and being around cattle ever since I could walk has been apart of my life, which brought me to one of the reasons why I have a passion for showing cattle. People often wonder why I love showing cattle so much and what the point of it is, but there are so many reasons why I have grown the love for it. There is just something special about the feeling of your heart racing when you walk into the show ring or the handshake from the judge telling you that all your hard work has payed off. The life lessons, the memories, the friends, and the love my family
The Sport is a devastating road to heartbreak and failure. (I suggest, To experience sports, you have to experience heartbreak and failure - sounds a bit awkward to say “the sport”). It is the definition of it. Don't get me wrong, sports can lead to success, fame, and many other glorious things that others can't imagine. Like the money, land and the "acquaintances"
