The Things That The War Can Bring Out In People The passage On the Rainy River written by Tim O’Brien was a short story about himself, and it displays the fear of death, and the fear of shame that Tim O’Brien is experiencing no matter what choice he decides to make. O’Brien is afraid to die, and that is a big reason why he doesn’t want to go to war, but the main reason is the fact that he hates war. He is completely against it, and sees no positive side to it whatsoever. Additionally, he’s afraid of the shame that comes with going to the war.
The community I grew up in central Texas celebrated my heritage, honored differences in culture, and fostered personal growth and self-discovery. My parents, with the strong work ethic they developed on their family’s farms in Ghana, encouraged my brother and me to work hard and find ways to use our skills to be of service to others, which wasn’t hard to do growing up in Austin with its many avenues to become involved and take care of the community, whether it was helping to direct families through the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park during the winter or raise money for educational programs for underprivileged kids in the area through working the concession stands at the University of Texas at Austin. It was this collaborative mindset that Austin
The move back to Maryland was one of the biggest challenges in my life, everything was okay in Ohio until my step dad caused problems with me and my mom. It all started when my mom tried kicking my step dad out of the house for domestic violence. She kicked him out because not only has he fought with my mom, but he and I have fought a few times. Everything seemed fine at first until he kept bringing police officers to our house claiming almost all of our household items were his and he wanted to get them back. Of course the officers eventually weren’t allowing him to keep coming back to bug us about it and told him to go to the court and take the problem to a civil court judge.
My original name is shaylin uhlig i was 15 before I moved to Beacon hills, California. I am now called Talia Burley. I am 16 years old. Moving from Tennessee to Ohio in the 6th grade was probably the most difficult times in my life. Boardman, Ohio, is where my mother and I moved too, from Murfreesboro,Tennessee. The environment was definitely a big change for me. Murfreesboro had variety of people with diversity and cultures from all around. Boardman is very basic, and not extremely integrated.
I’ve completed my move to Houston. I traded in my Maryland license for a Texas one. With that said, I’ve found a new church home. I joined Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church on January 13th. The church is very similar to STCF.
In the spring of 2012, I was informed that we were going to move. As a thirteen going on fourteen year old, the news was rather jarring. I was born and raised in that house, in that town, it was all I knew. We packed up our belongings and began the 678 mile journey to our new “home.” Moving from Hartland, Michigan to Durham, North Carolina was not only immense in distance, but in way of life.
Most people have moved before sometime in their life. For me, it was only two times. The first move was an international move from Vietnam to the United States of America, when I was just 8 months old. At the time, it was just my mom, dad, and me, traveling across the world to start a new life. Word of advice, moving is hard.
I thought about writing this long and exaggerated speech about me leaving Maryland but I think I 'll just keep it short and sweet. These past few months people constantly asked me why I wanted to move somewhere I do not know anyone. My response, I know Jesus! No matter where I go I have a friend that is watching over and protecting me. This is a picture of my closet door, in my apartment, at Morgan.

Since I have moved to Toronto, if I have made any accidental eye contact with strangers it would make me really uncomfortable. I understand staring is impolite but with a simple greet, “Hello or good morning” or even a smile, from where I come from is courteous or friendly. Needless to say, Toronto is the complete opposite. On a day-to-day basis, my daily commute involves a 5-minute walk to the coffee shop then I would take the bus to the subway station, on my way to school.
When I was 14 I had to move to San Clemente, California. I had already recently moved temporarily to Texas while a house was made ready for us on the military base. “The house is ready!” my mother had said excitedly, after being on the phone for a few minutes. “It’s time to go back?”
In the summer of 2012, was when I was leaving for Virginia. A lot had happened in the previous months before this moment. Things such as my mom getting a new car, getting a new dog, my mom having a heart attack, and so on. Over everything that was happening, the biggest thing was moving across country from Arizona. Although, the hardest part for me was leaving my dad behind.
Can you guess where my first trip was to? In May 13, 2003, I had my first trip to El Paso Texas. I woke up at 8am I was super excited and nervous at the same time, because I knew this trip would be a great experience for me. I was going to take a plane for the first time.
