Incorporating small reading allows all students participate and interact in reading out loud. The challenge of having different book assigned can have many benefits for students development, because they are able to move within reading levels as they advance their
First, as an educator it is important to realize all of the different aspects that go into reading and that different students will struggle with different aspects. It will also be crucial to use repetition when introducing and furthering reading skills in my class. I cannot expect every child to pick up on the key concepts on the first day. I will have to use some of the different techniques mentioned in this book to get all of my children excited about reading.
Getting to know a person is like reading a book. Each page tells bit by bit on who they are and what they become. As the chapters roll by, deciding whether or not to keep reading becomes difficult especially when so much time has been wasted on getting to know them. Anthony Tes was the longest book I have ever read. I met him five years ago and if I had known that by simply accepting his friend request on Facebook would lead to a toxic, abusive, 18 month relationship then I would have never gotten involved.
In a really chill room with couches as green as Shrek. With the scent like home as any other place. The couch feels soft and lumpy. It sounds like laughter and making jokes every minute. It never stays quiet.
“Wake up” Mom yelled, all the way from downstairs I could hear her. I checked on the time and it was already 6:00 am when we were supposed to leave. I jumped out of bed, ran to my closet and started getting ready for our road trip to Chicago. When I got down stairs, everyone was running around the house, trying to get ready. Mom was getting her makeup on, Dad was taking a shower, Alyssa was getting dressed and Garrett and I were the only ones ready.

In the story, ”The Masque of the Red Death,” the author uses the seven rooms as a symbol to express the themes of the story. To begin, Poe signifies that the palace has seven rooms. He uses the number seven as a symbol for the seven deadly sins. This provides the theme of selfishness and greed when Prince Prospero locks himself away in an effort to save himself and leaves his people to fend for themselves. Next, the author states that the clock, which is located in the Black room, can be heard anywhere in the palace.
Illuminated by the colors on the screen, I settle down on the worn out sofa. Popcorn and my dad’s cologne mix and mash with each other and create a distinct smell that still haunts me today. I leaned into my dad’s arms, his body heat makes my muscle relax, as my eyes glue to the screen. The buttery taste of popcorn fills in my mouth. My eight year old brain mixes up all of the characters names and faces in the movie, except one particular one.
Jonathan Edmond is the typical annoying little brother, who does his homework while waiting to be picked up by my mom, so that he can run home and play video games. As I am typing this he is currently yelling at the computer screen while simultaneously talking on the iPad to his little gaming buddies. You would think someone who can multitask, and has great fine motor skills (from all his video games) be great at doing other things right? Like household chores and such. Well you are wrong.
When I was in kindergarten, I did not have friends; my highs and lows oscillated on the approval of others who understood me even less than I did myself. For picture day, I remember being happy to wear my favorite shirt: a Strawberry Shortcake blouse with ruched sleeves. A girl deprecatingly told me I looked like a little kid. I never wore the shirt again. Although I already felt like an outsider, the situation worsened when I moved from Las Vegas to Hawaii.
The students struggle when reading on their own and the changes were made to provide the students with the opportunity to have extra support before completing the activity on their own. What worked well in your lesson? Students wrote down questions they had throughout the lesson without interrupting and asked them during our “Any questions?” segment. Also, students were very excited to work with an activity (passage) that is connected to a real-world situation.
Students need to have a clear understanding of what it means to be a skillful reader. In explicit instruction, a lot of modelling is involved but this isn’t enough. Along with guided practice, students need teachers who can clarify and correct confusion that may arise. In doing so, teachers need to know exactly where their students stand when it comes to understood and misunderstood strategies (Vilaume & Brabham, 2002).
Read alouds allow the teacher to model fluent reading and make the comprehension process visible, (Hilden and Jones, 2013, "THE COMPONENTS OF EFFECTIVE READ ALOUDS," n.d). Some students do not receive read alouds at home, and these are the children that especially need to be read to, ( Otto, 2014). As the children progress through their schooling, they begin to think that reading fast is the most efficient, but when the teacher models her thought process aloud, this allows the students to witness what “good reading” actually entails(Hilden and Jones, 2013, "THE COMPONENTS OF EFFECTIVE READ ALOUDS," n.d). Part of “good reading” is asking questions about the
We took our time as we read aloud and followed along with our finger. After partaking in this reading program I was skilled in reading and was finally sent back to class. I put my reading skills into action any time the teacher needed a volunteer to read from the textbook. Confidence was pouring out of me as I skimmed through the passages. My literary confidence was soon put to the test when writing was put into play.
