The first Co-Curricular event I attended was the Harried Tubman Portrayal on Wednesday, October 26th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. in the Julia Ball Auditorium. Dr. Daisy Century acted out the life of Harriet Tubman. Gwynedd Mercy University has a theme of #MakeMercyReal which correlates with this event. Dr. Century started out as a science teacher before she took on her acting career. She retired early and began acting as many historic figures but this day, she was Harriet Tubman.
Also, my skills of communicating improve as I can talk to anyone in my community or on the outside of my home. Overall, my three languages shape my identity and improve my
When I started high school, the club that excited me the most, was National Honors Society. So, at the first chance I got, in my sophomore year. After being a member for a year, I quickly realized that I wanted to take on a leadership opportunity in the club. So, I took a shot for the stars, and campaigned for being president of Honors Society. Though I had some competition, I put my all into composing a speech, and I won the presidency, and I have been president since.
Attending community college has opened many doors and presented many opportunities for me. With the help of my professors and the education I gained from my classes, I was hired at a company that will help me continue to grow. I was hired at a Fastenal branch in Three Rivers, Michigan because of my academic and intellectual skills I learned at Glen Oaks Community College. At Fastenal there are often times situations where a customer needs a product that is either not in stock at the store or a mass quantity that cannot be filled by the inventory in the store.
In the “Your Honors and Activities” section, I only listed the activities that I have participated in for more than 3 years. But, I choose to write my essay on the most important activity to me than I am currently been participating in for less than a year - my volunteer work at the Child Development Institute’s Early Learning Center. I find this the most important activity to myself because volunteering at the Early Learning Center allows me to express a side I don’t feel comfortable expressing in front of my family - my love for working with children. Also, when I volunteer, that is the happiest you’ll see me.
Having a second language in your background is so impactful on one’s life, providing them with more skills. This is the 21st century and having this skill helps an individual be
Throughout my elementary, middle and high school career, I have always thrived to do my best. I have remained in the top ten percent of my class throughout all twelve years spent in school. I have made many achievements, especially during my fours years in high school. I earned a grade 5, which is the highest attainable score, on both my Algebra 1 and Geometry End of Course exams, I was accepted into the National Honor Society for maintaining a high GPA and I was accepted into the National English Honor Society for maintaining a 4.0 GPA in English. While in high school, I also have obtained my Certified Medical Administrative Assistant certification, CPR certification, CPR instructor certification, Electrocardiogram certification and Emergency
Entering for the first time in a summer class can be quite frightening. This is what happened to me today. I had no idea we were going to have a new instructor then the one that I was assigned to. I knew entering this course would be challenging do with the class being five weeks long. As I walked in I sat down, and met two new people named Stephanie Corona and Tristan Yahn.
Knowing how to communicate in any situation present in that country is a great bonus to your resume and working experience, and at the same time, will highly boost your connections and peaceful relationships in the community which you are planning to move into. Furthermore, being multilingual will give you a significant boost of self-worth and will improve your mental prowess (cognitive and analytical abilities). Given the tough work you need to do in order to be fully fluent in a language not your own, many people feel a rejuvenating sense of fulfillment in accomplishing the full comprehension of the language they chose to learn. It will also improve your intrapersonal skills such as dealing with relationships, serving other people, and many other social functions. All in all, the task of learning languages is a highly important undertaking of all human beings because it embodies the intrinsic need of humans to connect with others and express oneself freely.
While I do not consider it a failure now at the time I was definitely frustrated with myself and considered it a failure. When I had to repeat my junior year I was mad at myself for not be able to complete the school year. As time went on I was able to focus on the positives in the situation and I was able to finally accept that I was not prepared for my senior year both emotionally and academically considering I missed so much school. If I did continue on to senior year I would not have been close to prepared as I am now for college. I ended up repeating my junior year due to the fact that I missed close to two-thirds of school due to a medical condition.
In the duration of my middle school years, I maintained excellent grades, except I had just one issue that held me back from a satisfying life. That issue was the fact that friends came very hard to me in my middle school years. Before my struggles at my middle school, Trafton, I had a very productive social life in the Elementary school I attended, Roberts Elementary. Here, it was very easy to make friends and have a great social life, since no hard work was required as a kid. Middle school, however, was a great challenge for me.
Throughout most of high school I was focused on trying to be like the people around me. When the real question was, what could I do to figure out who I am in this life. What is my purpose here? Growing up as one of the few Hispanic kids in my neighborhood and being the only Nicaraguan kid I know made me feel very different around people. Even though I went through most of Glenbrook South High School with friends, family, girlfriends, parties, sports, and all the advantages I had living in this town, I still had this deep hole in my heart.
“You can’t see other people’s point of view when you have only one language,” declared psycholinguist, Frank Smith. Just as it is mentioned in this quote, foreign language is important; therefore, people should learn a foreign language at an early age. When learning a foreign language at an early age, it helps people to concentrate and increase comprehension skills. Also, at a young age, the mind is fresh, so the person can take in more information and can easily master a foreign language. In addition, most secondary schools, universities, and jobs require a foreign language to be known.
I check my watch as I race to catch my first ever Austin Metro bus home. My metro bus ride to school in the morning proved disastrous. Taking the southbound rather than the northbound bus had left me confused while waiting for the return bus and embarrassed while explaining the reason for my late arrival to school. It 's 4:33. Oh man.
The Benefit of a Foreign Language “One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way,” says Frank Smith. From the American Community survey, 21% of children age 5 to 17 spoke another language besides English within the United States. Learning a second is important to society in my eyes because of the perseverance and sacrifice for those who are learning a foreign language, especially those who are learning English. The inspiration for this piece came from family and close people in my life who had somewhat struggled to learn another language but have prevailed and became more successful since then.
