In the representation, illumination of facial features are created by all the symbols and images that the person is made up of because it exemplifies the morals and characteristics of the person, but when the drawings and symbols are peeled away, the face is all saliently white, showing how there is no character or depth behind those drawings. During the year long process the speech everything was mostly important. However the speech by Neil Gaiman would probably have to be the most important. I say this because this really engaged me as a writer and motivated me to do better. The Comparison essay in English would probably have to be some of my best in that class. I say this because I thought I compared the two characters Napoleon and Snowball which landed me a pretty good grade.
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Bryan Le, a freshman that is currently attending a charter school by the name of “Downtown College Prep”. I am currently living with my parents and two younger siblings, one brother and one sister. Over my years in a public elementary school, I had seen others being happy because of one’s help and that made me feel happy inside. I then thought of ways to help others when I stumbled upon the fact that doctors help people everyday, which seemed as a great way to help many people so that they may continue to be happy in life. As I entered Downtown College Prep, I was urged by the staff to explore my options and to set a goal in life.
Essay #1 Throughout my high school career I myself have participated in various Service activities which I believe all have benefited the community. The one service activity that stands out the most for me is when I began two Lego Robotics teams for children in elementary school and mentored the two teams. I was inspired to help tutor these kids and the I myself had the idea of mentoring these Lego teams because I remember how much I enjoyed building Lego robots when I was a kid. so;, I thought that what better than to teach kids about Robotics.
Through the course of this class I have been exposed to number of new ideas and concepts that I was unaware of. Many of these ideas play out in my everyday life which has given me a chance to experience them and observe them. Know that I have been exposed to the Ideas I can look back over my life and point out were some of these concepts played a major role. One concept that has been present in my life and played a major role in not only my life but many other people even shaping many people's future is racism. Hensil defines racism as discrimination on the basis of race (Henslin 245).
My primary goal for attending college is to be financially fit and also use the knowledge I’ve gained to help underprivileged youth achieve their goals. I come from a poor background where I have struggled to make ends meet. I didn’t receive any scholarships to attend college after high school so I skipped it. The cost of college is a burden that I couldn’t have taken. I used the motivation of when I took time away from school surrounded by people in situations I never wanted to be in.
When I started high school, the club that excited me the most, was National Honors Society. So, at the first chance I got, in my sophomore year. After being a member for a year, I quickly realized that I wanted to take on a leadership opportunity in the club. So, I took a shot for the stars, and campaigned for being president of Honors Society. Though I had some competition, I put my all into composing a speech, and I won the presidency, and I have been president since.
In my freshman year, I made a choice to relinquish some of my social life and replace that time giving back to my community. I joined a non-profit organization called the Volunteer Corp. We spent our time at food banks, park clean-ups, and even hosting local events. This experience left a lasting impression on me in many ways; however, one experience changed my perspective on life and serve as a constant reminder of how the smallest contribution to others can be the most powerful. St. Joseph University, in Philadelphia, held an event called Hand in Hand. It was an event dedicated to raising awareness for people with physical and/or developmental disabilities.
My whole life long, I have been trying to find a place where I can truly fit in. I have also been worried about what I would do when I grew up. I was torn between my passion for horses and my passion for performing. There was no way I could give up one for the other, so I searched the net for Christian colleges that had majors in both equine studies and vocal performance and there it appeared: Asbury University. It was manna from Heaven.
Getting involved means being apart of something more, having the chance to met different people, helping out the community, but its also means learning more about who you are as a person. Starting off at Washburn University I plan to get involved right away, in activities or clubs that would help my academically and socially like the Hispanic club , Freethinkers and French club. I will set goals for myself and achieve them, some small some big. One goal I am pursuing right now is learning french and Portuguese, i plan on going to Brazil next year. School goals, are turning in my work on time, stay focused on any task that is given to me, making sure I understand what i need to do and how to do it.
I can contribute my hard work to the Honors College community. I think that I am hardworking and I love to work with others to help solve problems because two heads are always better than one. I would contribute my ideas to the lessons and help others when they need it. I love to be able to work with other people outside my comfort zone and be able to hear their ideas and combine ideas to come up with something that will benefit everyone in the community.
The Honors College path has five different pathways which include: undergraduate research, study aboard, service learning, internships, and campus leadership. The two pathways that I will incorporate into my four years here at Western are service learning and internships. I have a love for helping the people not only in my community, but anywhere I can help. For my major, I will have to do internships and clinical rotations to obtain my degree. Even though I am only choosing two, I believe that they all may cross my path in the four years here at Western.
As a child, I had no father to guide me on the path to maturity. Even in the idyllic scene of a father and son playing catch, as I tossed the football onto the roof of my house by myself, the roof replaced the person that I was supposed to learn the essence of manhood from. Although my early and painful realization of his absence was distressing, I learned how to rise above my disappointment and become my own motivation. Throughout my life, I have been knocked down, but I was never defeated–that is what defines me as a fighter. Relentless in achieving my goals, I will myself to succeed despite all that deters me.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
In my school and community, we have found that there is a large setback with the incoming freshmen and their ability to adapt to the new atmosphere and changes of high school. They either have social problems, home life problems, or high school is just a huge change for them. Six years ago, my school created a program hoping to solve that problem, the mentor/leadership program, which is open to juniors and seniors. I applied, and was accepted into this program my junior year. In the mentor program you meet with a freshmen every week and discuss some of the challenges they are facing while adjusting to high school.
