This semester I also learned how to word rules with right way more and how to be specific with procedures. I made a mock classroom policy about a year ago and after that lesson I made modifications to it. I got excited because it was part of our discipline 2, and I got more feedback on which I need another eye to look at for me. I took the comments and made more to policy and proud of my end product.
Both stories , “The Most Dangerous Game” and “ Liberty”, share the conclusion to their conflict as both characters escape to their freedom. These characters must make personal sacrifices in order to obtain their own freedom. Richard Connell's short story is a telling of an escape to physical freedom whereas Julia Alvarez’s short story is more about an escape to abstract freedom. In “The Most Dangerous Game” the physical freedom is centered around Rainsford and him surviving the manhunt.
This semester was very insightful. American History is essential to society and the path she is going. The importance of history is revealed in our Hollitz: Thinking through the Past. It portrayed just how important our founding fathers described their journey. The Declaration of Independence paved the way to freedom.
In Jim Murphy’s book, “Blizzard!” the blizzard took over most of the East Coast, therefore leading to the moral and ethical consequences towards the citizens and society. The blizzard threatened the safety of others and blocked all communication systems as well transportation systems. Due to the blockage of communication and transportation systems, separation of families and friends began to happen because they could not get to each other or contact each other. The blockage of communication and transportation systems kept New York isolated from the rest of the East Coast.
History. I decided to take an AP course to challenge myself mentally. Yet, I did not know it was going to be overwhelming as I was assigned to read multiple pages every day for homework. Nonetheless, the reading is very dense and hard to comprehend which made me struggle with the packets we had to fill out that correlates to the reading. When I would get home, I would do my homework but sometimes I would feel stressed out because it is just too much work so instead I would go on my phone
I learned how to formulate a restricted, unified, and precise thesis statement. I am now able to organize essay content into introduction, body and conclusion paragraphs. I also learned how to construct and organize unified, coherent, and well-developed paragraphs. I am able to apply grammar and usage rules correctly and develop clear, concise sentences. I learned about parallelism, run-on, comma splices and sentences.
I don’t like poetry because the rules are sometimes hard to follow. I don’t like book reports because when I read really long books, like Lord of the Ring, it’s hard to retain information from the book. The things that I would change would be the amount of books read in class. I say this because many people in our grade don’t read on the grade level
During this semester I think that the most valuable topics we studied were the age of enlightenment and the time during WWII and the Holocaust. I found that learning about these two time periods was easier because these time periods grabbed my attention, and the videos and reading kept me interested and wanting to know more. The first assignment we had where we were able to select our own figure from the Enlightenment time was one of my favorite assignments because it allowed us the flexibility to pick our figure. For me, I selected Adam Smith, which was someone whom really intrigued me and that the history textbook touched on very little. Selecting Adam Smith allowed me to go out and do my own research on him, which is something
Taking the strengths test, opened my eye. I realized that I guess I am good at those things, but never really sat down to think about it. Now that I know my strengths; I can use my strengths to help my team and school. If we all use our strengths to our advantage, than our school can achieve and accomplish anything. Reading the Visible Learning book, was a great reminder of the important influences effects student achievement in schools.
Maria Hernandez ENGL 1302 Ms. Robinson February 03, 2016 Morals or Life In the short story," The most Dangerous game", the author, Richard Connell uses a life or death conflict, an ominous setting, and suspenseful tone to reveal the theme that, sometimes you have to go against your morals in order to survive. Killing is never easy but sometimes is the only way out. After confronting General Zaroff and stating that he will not join him to kill other humans.
When looking at essays I wrote in the second semester, I am able to see a structural shift. My essays have developed from less structure focused pieces into more content focused pieces. I think the essay that captured my writing strengths the most was the synthesis essay. I had become so intrigued with the issue of racial disparity when reading an essay written by James Baldwin. I had so many ideas to incorporate in that essay, and we were given a structure to base the essay off of.
My misfortune in math later helped me realize that I needed to change my outlook on school. Instead of dismissing a subject just because I was not good at it, I would rather try and identify what I was doing wrong, and work to fix it. Taking the the ACT engage test helped me realize what my academic strengths and weaknesses are, and how I can use this knowledge to capitalize these strengths so I can be more successful in college than I was in highschool.
The project I’m most proud of is probably my first semester college algebra project. I invested a lot of time on the project, making sure I had everything done correctly. Although I didn’t get a good grade on it, I know that I invested time and put hard work in it. The assignment that was not as good as I expected, was my Macbeth essay. I was under pressure, since it was part of my English final.
The art of argument persuasion I’ve learned in this course is so beneficial for my marketing major. Other than that, it made me develop the essay writing skills necessary for success in my studies at the university level. This English course also taught me how powerful written words can be, and how the delivery of the tone is important for the reader. The tone of a narrative is different than the tone of a research, where the difference makes the paper. Also, the power in written words tells how much it is crucial to mankind.
Call of The Wild and The Outsiders was very fun to read especially with my classmates because it was interesting how many people had different views of things in the book. The kahoot reviews were my favorite thing in English this year. It helped us do well on the test and it was very exciting to compete with my classmates. I feel that I have improved a lot at writing essays as well. I really liked the notes and guidelines that we got because it helped guide me write my essay step by step.
