Leadership is the ability to motivate and inspire an individual or group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.
My vision of learning that promotes the success of all students and staff is, “Develop caring, positive minded students to embrace excellence and enjoyment with a lifelong love of learning.” My school’s mission and vision statement is the same as the districts. I feel these books and articles have opened my eye and taught me a lot on how to improve my leadership skills in a positive way. First, I really enjoyed taking the Myer-Briggs Personality Type test and Top 5 Strengths test. The Myer-Briggs Personality test, made me realize that we are all different and we all perceive things differently and that is what makes us unique. It helped me realize when working at a school there are many different personality types so I have a better understanding that I might need to communicate in different ways to fit their personality type. Most of the time people focus on their weaknesses and how they need to improve as a person, but we forget about the strengths we have. Taking the strengths test, opened my eye. I realized that I guess I am good at those things, but never really sat down to think about it. Now that I know my strengths; I can use my strengths to help my team and school. If we all use our strengths to our advantage, than our school can achieve and accomplish anything. Reading the Visible Learning book, was a great reminder of the important influences effects student achievement in schools. It taught me what I need to focus more on when I am teaching and what things that don’t make a huge impact on student achievement. Depending on the situation, I see myself as an authoritative, democratic, affiliative, and coaching leader. As a leader, I feel I am really good at keeping my team organized and prepared. I am always willing to have an open ear, as well as help problem solve. I am always very positive, empathetic, and compassionate. I am intrigued to learn and try new things, as well as grow with my team along the way. When collaborating new ideas to my team, I am very thorough and always willing to get input from my team members. I tend to always rely on leading by example. If I am not doing the ‘correct’ thing, then my team shouldn’t feel like they have to do something. I also rely on relationship building, collaboration, and communication. Positive school culture is built on great relationships by showing your staff that they matter and are important. Being empathetic towards them is also very important. Making sure there is clear communication and informing team members is also very important to build a successful team. Collaboration is another skill I focus on, as I don’t know everything and when you collaborate you get great ideas and shows a sense of working together. On the Myers-Briggs Personality assessment, I was considered an inspector. An inspector is described as, thorough, responsible, and developed. Well organized, hard-working, and usually accomplish any task once they have set their mind to. After reading the results, I
