Sophomore year I was playing at a soccer tournament with my old team. I was playing a great game even though the score was not reflecting my hard work. Towards the end of the game I jumped up caught the ball landed, my body went one way and my legs went the other, then I fell to the ground. Everyone around me had heard a pop, I knew it was my ACL. From this moment in my soccer career I knew I needed to be determined and to be focused on my recovery in order to get back out there.
When I was 7 years old I went to my first high school game with my mom, the teams that played were Roosevelt and Flower. I will never forget that day Sept 8th at 8PM friday night lights. My older cousin Brett Pierce was the starting Cornerback for flowers, I admired him because he the starting Corner and he was ranked #23 in the Nation for his position. My cousin ended the game with 18 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles that was one of the greatest days of my life. After the game was over I asked my mom could she sign me up to play football, she told me I wasn’t big enough.
On a cold, frosty, snow cover night in November at Welcome Home Stadium, was when my life changed. That night, two teams played for the chance to call themselves champions of 6th-grade football. All game, my team and I battled against the mighty Wilmington Hurricanes. We fought all game to win and finally we got the ball back with less than under a minute left and down by 4 points. The crowd was quieter than a church mouse as my coaches huddled us up during a timeout, and in that timeout, my coaches looked to me for answers.
Would I let my Son Play Football? In class we’ve been studying about concussions. I have learned that, having concussions can lead to many medical problems in the present as well as in the future. This leads me to thinking if I would actually allow my child play football?
Danny was running with the ball when my cousin Miguel kicked the ball away. “You are never going to make a goal on me,” Miguel yelled. That 's when the ball came rolling to Vincent. Vincent was getting ready to kick when Danny announced,“miss”. Vincent looked up and took a shot with the ball.
One day five years ago my father asked me if I wanted to be the water boy for the Milton Hershey School football team. I said, “Yes”. So for three years I was the water boy. I once got cleated in the face. I had to sit down for a little, but then I sprang up as fast as a rabbit.
Have you ever grown to dislike something that you once loved? And I don’t mean something you liked that one day you just got bored of. I mean you loved this it was you whole life, then over time you just built up a hatred for this once great thing. For me this would be football. I still love to watch and talk about football, but I could never play the sport again.
North Andrew hadn’t been to a state championship game since the early 90’s. This isn’t acceptable in a small football town like mine. Everyone knew something had to change. It wasn’t until my sophomore year in 2012 that we finally made it back to a state championship. We had a new coach that year and a lot of talent.
One sunny afternoon on June 6, 2012 we gathered at the neighborhood baseball field in Wizzy, TX. The neighborhood kids came and family members it was quite a lot of kids that gathered to play today. We started off picking leaders and teams dividing us up in even amounts and flipping a coin to see who hits first. We started the ball game and both teams were doing amazing with fielding and hitting. Then boom the drama started and nobody had a clue why Enrique and Birdie were fighting.
As I stood there in the huddle after practice breathing heavily with sweat dripping from my body I listened as Coach Hegsted gave one of his motivational talks. He was talking about how we have no reason to hold anything back or wait for someone else to get the job done. As I stood there, with coach’s voice in the back ground, I thought to myself he is right this is probably going to be the last time I pad up with this group of guys and play with them. It was this day that I had learned a very valuable life lesson that I had never thought of before. I had played football every single year that I possibly could starting with that NYFL league in elementary.
Introduction It was the beginning of my 5th grade school year, and I decided that I wanted to begin a new sport. On the first day of practice, having never played the sport, our coach lined us all up on the field. Our team had a quarterback from the previous year that was returning, but he had no one to back him up this season. As coach Link stood back to examine his future team, unexpectedly, he pointed at me and said, “you are going to play quarterback”. Excited, reflecting back, it was one of the best moments of my life.
It was a hot July night. The softball game that had been scheduled, was cancelled because the other team was short 2 players. Right after the umpires called the game, the girls showed up. So, instead of completely wasting everyone's night, the coaches decided it would be a good idea to have a scrimmage. It would be good practice for everyone.
I am pretty comfortable with mechanical issues related to writing. I enjoy writing, I love it. So, I enjoy a lot of the different aspects that come along with writing. Even the mechanical issues related to writing. This means, I am pretty comfortable with mechanical issues.
Adrenaline pulsing through my body and anxiety filling up in my stomach, I quickly throw on my football gear and head out to the practice field. It’s a nice hot day in Ocala, Florida, with the sun beating down on our necks, we stand side by side in line waiting to be picked to play second, third, or fourth string in a play. Waiting in anticipation, each of us grinding our teeth, watching first string pure athletes colliding against each other like gladiators to have possession of a ball made at one-time of “pig’s skin”. To some people, the game of American football makes no sense, whether it’s the idea of trying to protect a ball or running and passing it to make a goal for your team. People like this, see the concept of football and understand why millions of people love it; but to them the sport is pointless and causes way too many casualties.
The first time on a football field and i was very hyped about it cause i got to play and the coach put me as starter because i was the biggest one on the field. The very first play we got sacked but are left lineman didn't stop the ball they got pushed over and we got sacked. The ball was on the 25 yard line and we were trying to get to the fifteen yard line to get the first down and we were short 10 yards but we could still get cause if we work hard you play hard.
