Jackie Robinson stated one of my favorite quotes, "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives. " For two semesters, I have participated in the Community College Completion Corps. I have served as both Sub-Chair planner and Vice President of membership; in the former position I led the campaign. This event educates Tarrant County College Southeast Campus students as wells as faculty members about the importance of graduating from community college.
Narration Essay I just finished High school, so I was ready to go to college. I had thoughts about the subject at the time, because I heard that college is harder than High school. All I can think about is how should I go about starting out in college? I could ask some questions while I’m there.
I have been humbled enough to have the opportunity to take a dual enrollment class while in high school. Similar to any first experience, I was nervous. In fear of the unknown, I sat in the back of the class and watched students hustle to claim the remaining seats. From my perspective, I could see the uncomfortable shifting and the awkwardness clung to me like humidity. When it came time for the dreaded introductions, there was a quick moment of panic and annoyance.
Through my hard work and dedication, I was rewarded with many academic achievements. I was inducted into the National Beta Club and the National CTE Honors Society I also received an academic all-star award my junior year. I was able to have room in my schedule to dual enroll at Sampson Community College and take to college credit
I have received fifty three credits and I 'm currently in the need of nine more. Three classes which I intend to complete during the summer. This community college does not offer the degree I plan to pursue. While this institution has been a wonderful experience it is a transitional point rather than the end. I hope to finish my bachelor 's degree while gaining new experiences.
Finally around 2008 I was able to got myself in to a College and started working on my graduation but for some unfortunate reasons I had to move to Texas to help my family until 2012. It was a turning point of my life where finally I was able to start work on remaining credits toward my graduation. However it was an AAS (Associates in Applied Science) and completed by the end of 2013. This is one of the reasons for me to apply SUNY Empire State College. Another reason is , I’m not in a situation to complete a traditional morning to evening classes but more flexible to complete my degree through online classes in my given time.
How I Graduated High School Have you ever procrastinated for so long that it finally caught up to you? Well that was the story of my life in my senior year of high school. To me, high school wasn’t about learning and doing school work, it was more about hanging out with friends and living a life of leisure and free time. Needless to say, by the end of my sophomore year, everything changed and I learned things the hard way. Getting your responsibilities out of the way, and taken care of is always better done soon rather than later.
The person who got and opened my report card was my mom. I honestly do not know how she felt because she doesn 't really show her emotions or it 's just that I do not know how to see what kind emotion she has. I guess she was happy with the fact that I had some A 's. I don 't think she was happy to see a bad grade on my report card. My mom did not say anything when she opened it she just said good job on getting A 's. I think she had a smile on her face because we were in the car and I wasn 't facing her. My dad was in the car too because we were on our way to church and he wasn 't really happy with one of my grades.
In this situation, I have recently graduated with my business degree and have landed a new position at a company I had been researching during my senior year in college. I have been offered a lump-sum, sign-on bonus of $5,000 and have also recently purchased a new condo and car. My personal debt is comprised of these two new purchases as well as my student loans. When considering my debt reduction and investment earnings potential and any applicable taxes I would personally choose to invest the $5,000 sign-on bonus and pay down my debt. In this example, tax rates are stable over the next 10 years and inflation is low and does not change.
Attending a college or university can be a pleasurable four years or it can be path of frustration and indecision. I have spent the past year at Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences thinking I wanted to be a doctor. College is expensive and when I started pondering changing my major it just didn’t seem practical. As a second semester sophomore changing my major would potentially mean spending more time in school which in return means more student loans and prolong starting a career. Not only would I be changing my major, I will be changing schools completely.
When I applied for college, I knew I had to pay my way so I juggled the demands of work and going to school in order to financially support myself and earn my Bachelors degree. My first two years of college, I was part of the ASAP program, I receive all the benefits offered by that program except tuition because of my immigration status. In return, I had to register as a full-time student each semester and be present for each meeting session in the program, though I had to work and fulfill my finical responsibilities. That program pushed me to demand more from myself, I worked tirelessly to ensure that I reach my educational goals and I was glad it did. I graduated on time with a 3.4 GPA.
My education that I have received from the Wausau School District has set me apart as a student because of the great opportunities that are presented to the students and the faculty in the educational system. A large variety of classes are offered in different core areas throughout the schools which gives the ordinary student the chance to experience other areas and interests. I used this to my advantage, when deciding what type of field that I was going into after college. I took a Young Adult Medicine (YAM) class sophomore year to see if I was interested in the medical field and where in this area I was drawn to work in after high school. The Wausau School District has also prepared me for my future college studies and career by challenging
I have taken several steps to pursue my aspirations in life. Beginning in the classroom, I have applied myself by taking many of the hardest classes offered at my high school, including AP, PLTW, dual enrollment, and Scott Community College classes. I have taken all this classes while still maintaining a 3.962 unweighted gpa and being in the top five percent of my class. These efforts in school will help me to pursue my future career aspirations of engineering in the field of renewable energies. By gaining a solid foundation in the fields of math, science, engineering, I believe I have prepared myself to pursue my aspirations of a college education and degree.
The family 's source of income derives from my father 's single job as a server at a hotel. In the family, there are a total of six family members including my father. Also, my brother attends to college where my father set aside a great portion of his income for his college education due to my father 's connotation towards loans. The university is costly, and this has greatly shortened the income. My grandmother and mother are in an unstable condition as their are medical issues that accompany both of them.
When the first nine weeks was up and report cards were sent out, I began to notice the change in my grades. I was no longer a F and D student, I now was a C student. I was really excited about how much better my report card looked, I never was this motivated by the type of grades I made before.
