This quiet and quaint town known as Mt. Holly, NJ is where I grew up. Nestled in the outskirts of New Jersey’s capitol, is known for its small town charm and historic roots. Living here was the best years of my life. I grew up in a part of town that once housed the military families from Ft. Dix and McGuire Air Force Base, which is now known as Joint Base.
You have goals set of all of us to become something important. To make a change to the world.
Before climbing hills on foot, cycling possessed my passion for a couple of years as my only activity. After one year of riding with Tim, he announced that he would be climbing Mount Rainier. My response was simple; “good luck with that.” Though I began participating on training hikes with Tim as he prepared for his colossal challenge, the two of us continued to ride on a regular basis as riding the “Seattle to Portland” Bicycle Classic remained a mutual goal.
I am grateful for having had the opportunity to learn and grow at Keystone in the addictions field. The staff has been patient and helpful as I have gained much knowledge as I worked through my master’s program. There are not words to express the gratitude I have for everyone and all that they have done for me this last year, not only, professionally, but also, personally through my journey at Keystone.
When I was 14 my stake High Adventure group went on a 50 mile hike on the Appalachian Trail which was one of the most physically and emotionally challenging experiences I have ever had. For six days, I had to carry my pack containing about 40 pounds in supplies. It rained all six days of the trip. It only took a few hours before my shoes, socks, and feet were soaked through, which is not ideal for hiking.
As I am training for my fifth marathon I am starting to do the hardest part of training for myself which is dieting. My personal goal is to hopefully make it to the Boston Marathon. I don't mind putting in 50 plus miles in a week. I have read research how to prevent injury how to train how to do everything about running except dieting. I know a little about dieting and the common sense basics about what to eat in general.
When it comes to analyzing works of various genres, I have never done it quite as much as I have done in this class. I never really did analysis like we did in Humanities 140 in any other English class I have had thus far. Albeit, I have only had one English class that was taken all the way back in 2012. So after not doing anything related to deeply analyzing works for such a long time was very refreshing. I know we analyzed many different things from architecture to drama to dancing, but I cannot say that I enjoyed every little thing that we as a class analyzed.
My strive for perfection was dismantling me. It started with small things that eventually spiraled out of control. I began to take hours before deciding what clothes to wear, only to put on one of the same three outfits I always wore. I wouldn’t let anyone else use my pencils out of fear that they would turn my perfect eraser into a rubber shaped dome. Decisions became too hard to make and mistakes to me were worse than having a group of sharks slowly tear apart my body.
With completing the first rock climbing class at Penn State, I was able to benefit from a variety of new things learned from the class, in addition to refreshing my memory on things that I already learned. This class has taught me several important life lessons that I will remember for as long as I live. The biggest hurdle in this class for was time management. I am and have always been a procrastinator, therefore completing the required five extra two hour visits to Reading Rocks and additional hour per week in the gym was challenging for me. It did not help that class this semester, required a lot of time outside of class.
Goals are often set by people, some are unattainable, some are small goals that can be achieved in a day or less. My goal was to earn the rank of Eagle in Boy Scouts. When I was the age of five, I joined the scouting program. I have been involved for almost three-quarters of my life, and still am very dedicated to my troop. I currently serve as the Senior Patrol leader for my troop of forty-plus boys ranging from eleven to eighteen years old.
We all aspire to something in our lives. We desire to become someone, obtain something, visit some places. The goal in life is like a beacon, without which it is easy to get lost on the path of life. A philosopher Thomas Carlyle once stated: “A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.” Therefore, it is crucial to determine which direction it is worth moving by setting up a goal for a day, week, month, year and ultimately for a lifetime.
Another goal is about my teaching being students centered like Jessica Mays classroom. Her first worry is the students and I am glad to be like her. I want to be able to put my art in a classroom and show my future students that it’s okay to think outside the box and be creative. I believe that my goals have not changed, but that they have gotten bigger and taken more
A sense of accomplishment is invaluable to a person. Not only does a sense of accomplishment build confidence and faith in oneself, but it also allows one to reflect on how wonderful the journey to the accomplishment was, and how every little struggle and triumph was worth it. In the middle of summer, where time seems endless and the stress of the previous school year has been shed by students, I never expected to find out that I scored a five on both of the advanced placement exams I took. Nor did I have one-hundred percent confidence the goals we set as section leaders of the marching band would actually be met. Yet to my surprise, I had the good fortune of accomplishing challenging things in both aspects of my life.
It is a moody colorless day as i’m marching with my adjustable ski poles through the green steep Rila mountain on a desolate steep dirt trail, accompanied by my mother. Birds are flying, migrating to the southern hemisphere as it is turning chilly. Tree leaves are falling on the ground. I feel my legs were sore, my hands are dark red and my face is turning violet. I ask myself, “Where is the hill?
The things that I am striving for not only help me now but they can and will help in the future. My goal is also proactive as well. I know that it will be a process and I have to take things day by day. These goals are things I should have improved and took the initiative to improve. I will know that I am making progress based off of when I have homework, if I wait or do the assignment when given.
