My expectations of the inter professional event is to see the collaboration of different health care professionals with different professional background, working together for the betterment of the patient. I had some understanding about the roles and responsibilities of mental health counselors. As a pharmacist, I was treating the patient’s symptoms and the present disease state or problems. The mental health counselor treats patient with all aspects of cognitive and behavioral therapy. One thing I come to know is that they call their patients as “clients” and not patients. Mental health counselors get into detail of each and every problem, and the reason which leads their clients into the problem. I was solely focusing on the medications needs to be started into the patient. Starting patient on many medications without even considering the patient’s willingness to take that many drugs, and not considering the risks related to it. Mental health counselors thought to initiate cognitive therapy for the patient, make patient comfortable and then if needed started slowly and gradually the medications. We a team encountered the challenges, as mental health counselor told us how it works by deeply and try to eliminate the root cause of the patient. My plan changed with the input of the mental health counseling students. As I above mentioned, my care plan was treating the patient’s symptoms and preventing patient from the future complications. With the involvement of mental health students, we tried to focus on all the aspects in patient’s treatment. We focused on patient’s family, business, reasons for depression, reasons for the habits of his drinking and abusing drugs. Putting all that together, we have put our patient on few drugs and cognitive therapy
