My experiences and what I have learned from them will add to the Towson University campus community. The world I come from is based around a family which displays strength and resilience. I come from a military family where both my mother and father have served many years. My mother served for nineteen years in the U.S. Navy while my dad served for several years in the U.S. Marines. I have three siblings, all within five to ten years older than me. This inspired independence at a young age. My family became disjointed when my mother passed away suddenly due to a rare virus contracted while she was deployed.
The absence of a mother from our family of six changed our family dynamic. My father now became the sole supporter of his four children which led him to work constantly. As a family, we had to take on new roles. I began to have greater responsibility in my household. One by one my siblings left for college leaving just my father

This has helped shape my dreams and aspirations for several reasons. I realize the strength I have gained from my families is a strength that must be shared. Other individuals who go through difficulties may not have a family like TAPS on which to rely, and this is why I want to be there to help heal these individuals. In order to fulfill this desire, I will pursue a degree in psychology leading into school for Psychiatry.
