For our final project for this class, my partner and I decided to Interview Jose Hernandez who is my brother in law. Jose Hernandez came to the United States at the age of 21 and he’s been living in the U.S for almost 11 years already. We decided to interview him because we felt that we can connect with him if we were able to do a different person with a different ethnicity which was our plan at first but, because of time we needed to find someone fast. Counting down the list from number 20 to eventual number 1, my heart raced as they called out the names. It was 8th grade and the rankings were out. This may seem like a rather pretentious achievement but when they called out the name “Andrea Campos” as the valedictorian of Copiague middle school. My heart skipped a beat and tears streamed down my face. Hearing my parents brag about me to their friends made me feel like my accomplishment was their achievement as well.

I did my ride-along on Friday October 23, 2015. My ride- along was fours hours long from 8 am- 12pm. I rode with the NAUPD with Officer Jake Brady. We did not get that many crisis calls.
For my week 2 24-hour recall I interviewed my husband E.S. During a conversation held with E. Salcedo (E. Salcedo, oral communication, September 2015) I was able to gather that he is a 42-year-old male Mexican American. In brief, I had some issues with Dr. Runge started by the long summer vacation I took due to a delay in my visa renewal by the US embassy and ended up by the issue of a broken machine that I was held responsible for it. In my opinion, the main issue that triggered the conflict was a bead beater instrument, as shown in the below figure, that I used for three weeks. I used it to get cell lysates to measure the protein concentration and the enzymatic activity of alkaline phosphatase using another machine, VICTOR2 spectrophotometry. The bead beater worked fine but the metal cap holding the samples in the rotor-like part was getting loose. I assumed this looseness may come from a fraction between the incorrect capping and the nail threads.
