Everybody has to face the bumps of growing up. As we grow up, we find meaning in things that we never noticed before. Through the worst days and the best days, everybody develops by reaching a better understanding and continuing on. The transition from the innocent childhood to a mature adulthood is a slow process that a person takes one step at a time.
Having my high school at the AP program established under SCNU was always one of my luckiest things happened to me. At here, I was trained to be priorly familiar with the U.S. education system and successful after coming to the U.S. where all the students were supposed to go. In order to be prepared, I was trained to write different kinds of essays, including laboratory report, social science research paper and literature expository writing. I have started to write all these kinds of essays since grade 10, and every writing assignment has gone through the process of outlining, drafting, peer proofreading and editing. At college, my writing style hasn’t really changed, yet, the way I write an essay has changed.
Yvette Lalander ENG 0092-2LC Self-reflection Essay (mindset) 16 February 2023 From reading chapter 1 of Mindset: The New Psychology of Success (2006) by Carol Dweck, I learned about two different mindsets: fixed and growth. I figured that I have more of a growth mindset than a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is when you are willing to change your mind more easily than a fixed mindset. Developing a growth mindset took important people: grandparents, my mom’s boyfriend, and my high school teachers and faculty.
My five signature themes were: Achiever- As an Achiever, “No matter how much you may feel you deserve a day of rest, if the day passes without some form of achievement, no matter how small, you will feel dissatisfied.†Sometimes people call me an overachiever, but that is how I feel is my normal. Harmony- I do not like when people argue because I feel there is a better way for everyone to get along. Once everyone is in harmony, life is much smoother. Input-
Just as a caterpillar does, we, as people all have our periods of intense growth. I think the most critical stages of growth are spent in isolation and silence, quite like a caterpillar in a chrysalis. However, as people we spend that time looking inward as well as outward. We begin to reflect on the lessons we learned, the trials we’ve faced, and the monumental milestones in life we’ve conquered. We begin to look at our current relationships with our family, significant others, babies-mama or babies-daddies, our friends, the people around us, and even our past relationships.
Early in my life, I used books as an escape from the harsh reality in front of me. When I was around five years old, I was trapped in an abusive and sheltered household. When the yelling started, I used to hide under my bed and stay very quiet. I would read any book that I could find to keep my mind off what was happening around me. I made myself a safe space under my bed with a light and pillows.

My history as a writer has been a bit of a struggle of slow development. From a young age I had a hard time with spelling and this is still a trouble area for me, even with the help of autocorrect. As I grew in age and as a writer my problematic area became not including enough nitty gritty details. My bad experiences that I recall would always involve the start of writing because I struggle with beginning paragraphs. Also, I tend to use the ending paragraph to just repeat myself, so overall my first and last paragraphs are usually shit.
In order for human beings to understand their purpose for existence, individuals must question their religion, educational background, and the people that are sharing this information. By challenging ones former knowledge, individuals may discover that the information that they once thought to be true is actually flawed. As infants, human beings are unaware of the nature of the world; Beliefs and education are forced upon children until they are old enough to understand that it is their right to make his or her own decision. The first controversial topic young adults should question is religion. There are several different views about how the earth formed.
My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.
The famous quote “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional” by John Maxwell develops the thought of what growth actually is. There are various ways people can develop themselves, such as physically, emotionally, or spiritually. However, growth can ultimately be defined as bettering oneself. People could see themselves grow and flourish through an education, friendships, religion, or even something as simple as helping others.
Our whole lives we have lived under the creeping thought that us as humans are destroying earth’s ice caps and in turn all polar bears’ homes. But what if I told you that we have been told a lie our entire lives? If ones forgot about what news social media and highway banners say regarding global warming and open-mindedly looked at the “cold” hard facts that science and extensive research has concluded, then maybe my argument would not seem as brash as someone think. These scientific findings will prove to anyone reading this that global warming is the worst scientific scandal of all the time. I’ve also attached regions to be vigilant citizens and should realize how our world cube has been subjected in the global media message which has resulted
As I began the journey of returning to school, one of my biggest fears, was the writing aspect in the classes. The fear of reading and writing has never been a strong quality; however, I have never able to successfully be creative in the way I learn. I understand my weaknesses and when I need to focus on my strengths. I am constantly learning new ways, skills, and tools to utilize to continue to grow as a writer. Focusing on my strengths allows me to have the security that I can be a good writer.
