I am a pioneer! My pioneer story isn’t your average Latter Day Saint pioneer story, as far as historical LDS stories go! I was raised by goodly parents, I was born and raised in Spokane Washington. I am the youngest of three children born to Jim and Shannon Newell. My brother James is the oldest and four years older than myself.
Governor’s School Essay Response Ever since I was young you could always find me toying around with objects trying to figure out how they worked. Taking them apart, studying them, and then reconstructing them back together was a usual past time for me. Looking back I realized that all of the time I spent on learning how something worked was the foundation that flourished into my passion for engineering.
For my Diverse Field Experience this semester, I spent fifteen hours at the Mclean County Juvenile Detention Center. This particular center was occupied by about 8-14 juveniles at a time, all depending on court dates and occupancy of other nearby detention centers. This center usually had 3 staff members working the shift every time I went, which was seven to nine on weekday afternoons. I was intrigued to go to at this time because I thought it would be the time of the day were the juveniles had no school work or other obligations to do while I was there. I wanted to see what they liked to do in the free time before bed, the only stipulation being mandatory snack time at eight pm.
Growing up, the world of mathematics and science has always intrigued me. I have always preferred to calculate definite integrals rather than talk about the Gilded Age, and I will choose to read about NASA’s latest discoveries over Shakespearean sonnets any day of the week. I felt I could delve into the concepts of Calculus and Newtonian Physics more easily than Carnegie’s Gospel of Wealth and Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter. I saw myself devoted to the fields pertaining to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and aspired to pursue a career where I could apply my fascination into the field of engineering. When I walked into AP English Language & Composition at the start of my junior year, however, I realized my interests
I have yet to research the various types of engineering, but I am rather certain that searching in that field will be in vain. As I planned to try to make a career out of something I enjoy doing; after all, I will be doing it for a long
The compelling aspect of engineering is that learning never ends and you acquire skills which can be applied universally. I try to reason out scenarios because everything can be broken down, while most people could care less. I participate in Principia where students come together and complete tasks such as building bridges or advanced problems in teams. I realized Mechanical was my forte as I became more comfortable with my hands. I created a trebuchet, speaker, domino set and an exotic pen alongside with drawings within a semester.
Their fluid integration would allow me to pursue both Product and Environments throughout my four years. My interest in Product Design came from my desire to create 3D sculptures. I hope that this major will teach me more about the fundamental
I want to know about all the different kinds of engineering before I decide which path to take. It was very hard for me to decide on a career path since I’m getting my AA degree when I graduate high school. I realized I no longer wanted to become that doctor my family always wanted me to be. Seeing my dad’s life as an electrical engineer also gave me a lot of inspiration. There are many
Less than 1% of the United States population decides to take the oath to protect this country. Joining the military was definitely the best decision I have personally ever made. I took that oath to be part of the 1% because I wanted to help people, I wanted to defend my country. I have met some pretty amazing people that have taught me more than I could ever imagine by joining the Army. One in particular is SGT Bryan Wigginton.
Since a young age I have been interested in obtaining my degree in a field of engineering. There were many factors that helped me come to this conclusion. One of those factors was that I always had an advanced understanding of mathematics and science. More important to me than excelling at math and science was that I actually enjoyed the subjects. What I enjoyed most about these subjects was all of the challenging problems that they could offer.
Investigating My goal for my Personal Project was to help elementary aged students during the summer so that they won't lose as much of their knowledge and won't fall as far behind in their education. I chose this goal because, as a child, I fell behind during the summers. I was greatly affected by the lack of learning I was exposed to as a child. As a result, I was pulled out of school and my mother continued my education from home for a couple of years.
There have been several events that really impacted me and made me who I am today, some of which centered around the sport I compete in, and also in my school and home life. I have been a competitive rifle shooter for 4 years, and making it onto a Division 1 team here at Ohio State to compete and hone my skills has really changed my life. I went from being someone with an interesting hobby and not many traditional sports skills to someone who now has to balance their time with classes and a D1 sport. It’s not always easy, but I wouldn’t give it up for anything. Being an athlete in college is such a great experience and I’m sure I will reflect upon it later in life and remember all the great times I have had so far and will have in the next few years.
I have found that a career in mechanical engineering requires no less than a bachelor's degree. These projects incorporate guideline in different framework parts, from PC programming to power frameworks, and spread specialized subjects, for example, liquid mechanics, thermodynamics and hydrodynamics. Understudies additionally are relied upon to pick up a fundamental comprehension of structural engineering, electrical engineering and compound engineering (Kokemuller, 2004). Numerous projects incorporate coursework in fields where mechanical engineering is frequently connected, for example, business or natural science. Understudies inspired by research and advancement positions in the scholarly world or private industry may go ahead to acquire an expert's or doctoral degree in mechanical engineering (Wisler, 2011).
I am confident in my decision to study mechanical engineering. I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering because I love math, solving problems and being creative. I am currently taking an ap calculus class at school and attending Lapeer Education and Technology center for the second half of my day. I have been attending Lapeer ed-tech center for 2 years now where I study CAD mechanical design. I have learned parametric solid modeling, worked with 3D printers and am currently learning code for
Very similar to real life engineering, we are tasked with designing and constructing various projects based on a set of requirements or problems. I have always been incredibly successful in this class achieving high marks, and in grade 11 receiving the award for the highest mark for my grade. Although not a prerequisite for any engineering programs, I believe that it greatly benefits all potential engineering students. It puts our teachings into practice to solve real life situations, giving us a preview into the future as engineers. Scheduling conflicts prevented me from taking this great course in grade 12.
