I was in National Junior Honor Society in junior high; since then it has been a goal of mine to be in the National Honor Society in high school as well. I love helping others and getting things done when other people are not able to. I am extremely adaptable to any situation I am put in and get along very well with others. I have leadership experience in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, I am also in a position at my job that gives me a lot of influence and leadership. At work, if people need something they will generally come to me before my boss because 95% of the time I am am able to help them.
I demonstrate my outstanding achievements in service through the clubs and teams I participate in. I’ve organized many teen outreach events targeted towards middle and high schoolers such as lock-ins and dances, but I have also organized community service events targeted for the whole base, for example barbeques. A recent example of this would be the Ramstein Color Run taking place next month. Being a Girl Scout for 7 years taught me to appreciate and enjoy taking action in the community. From a young age, I became used to helping around my community.
Other than participatie in school activities, I help out with my community. Through National Honor Society, we are able to find more ways to help with the
I love volunteering because even though you don't get money for helping someone, you get the joy and happiness of knowing you did something good for someone else. Being a member of Key Club and Junior Optimist I have the opportunity to volunteer frequently in the community and to the school. I have volunteered to work in various booths at the Glandorf Park Fest. I helped work at the YMCA Trunk or Treat to pass out candy to the little kids on Halloween. A group of my friends went over to Kalida to help with the Triathlon.
Throughout my high school career, I have taken opportunities to be an active community member through community service. Service that I have participated in has given me experience being a mentor and educator. As a link Crew leader, I volunteered my time to help the incoming freshmen in my community/ school district assimilate into their new environment. I went to training, followed a link crew curriculum, guided them in activities, offered advice, and served as a role model for the students. I helped them feel welcome and prepared to take on high school.
Being someone who likes working with and helping people, I have and am actively participating in many extra curricular activities and clubs that help me to gain many different experiences which are helping me learn which areas I enjoy and which I do not enjoy as much for my future life choices. I have been an active officer and member of the NTHS since 2015; I am also a member of various clubs on Auburn High School’s campus such as NHS, FBLA, Engineering Club, HOSA and Spanish Club. I have volunteered at East Alabama Medical Center for 4 years through the TAV program. I am also a member of a national organization called (NSHSS). Through these experiences I have learned a lot and enjoyed my time in many of the clubs and have continued to be affiliated with them through my high school years.
After taking my assessment, I received a score of 67. My score Interpretation, is that I have an excellent approach to decision making. I am capable of setting up processes and make lots of potential solutions. I analyze options carefully, and make the best decisions possible based on what I know.
When my older sister went off to college, I had never seen a more driven, mature and intelligent 18 year old look so terrified and reluctant to leave her home just a few states away. Caroline had spent the majority of her high school years stressed, angry and tired, holed up in her single room acing more APs than I can count with two hands. My sister knew from the time she could read that success meant getting into an Ivy, even if the price was throwing away all human contact or not. Myself, was not so sure. I had been shaped by a front-row-seat to the 24-hour shows of a hormonal workaholic—years spent listening to crying, yelling, and disturbing silences from upstairs in Caroline’s room taught me that in order to earn a college acceptance,
This club did many service projects in the community that I was able to be a part of. In my junior year, I participated in TEAM Engineering. With this club, a small select group of students went to another local high school to compete with other schools in an engineering contest. During my senior year, I volunteered at the San Juan Bautista Catholic Church day care.
I can contribute my hard work to the Honors College community. I think that I am hardworking and I love to work with others to help solve problems because two heads are always better than one. I would contribute my ideas to the lessons and help others when they need it. I love to be able to work with other people outside my comfort zone and be able to hear their ideas and combine ideas to come up with something that will benefit everyone in the community.
Just two years ago, if someone would have told me that I would have a 3.9 GPA in college and that I would have dreams that are close to coming true, I would have laughed straight in their face. I was never truly inspired before in life, and I thought, with all the trouble that I got into in high school, that I was just a bad person, and that bad people do not get to achieve dreams. I was confused, a mess, and I did not even know how a "troubled youth" as I was labeled, would be able to do successfully in life. As I stated before in this application, I was diagnosed with a lot within high school, but it does not start there. No, this all goes back to preschool, where I was actually kicked out of my preschool and was told that I required “psychiatric”
Coming from two different cultures, I did not fully understand how to accept death seeing that one is more death affirming whereas the other is not. As I was growing up, I saw the two conflicts before my eyes, but it never impacted me in any way. However, one day after rushing my aunt to the hospital, my family and I discovered she only had two months left to live. A year later, my grandfather passed away due to a stroke. This was my first time ever dealing with death and my first time seeing my two culture clashing; consequently, with not knowing what to do, I spiraled downward in the abyss.
My sisters were in high school, still teenagers. They convinced me that I should go back and complete my degree. This is why it was so important for me to continue in school. “The three of us, my two younger sisters and I had worked in a tomato factory that summer before I went to my field placement in Cincinnati. My little sisters gave me part of their money to get me to Cincinnati and have something to support myself until the agency gave me a stipend in October.
I am extremely excited to be able to study abroad, however my GPA is a possible deterrent to this opportunity. Last semester, I had 16 credits and it was my first semester in the business school. I also began a role as peer mentor, switched jobs mid semester, and moved off campus as well. All of this adjustment contributed to my semester not starting off as strong as it should have. I really struggled with Accounting 100.
Thomas Moore has been my top high school choice for the past two years and I was elated when I found out that I got accepted into the school. I’m getting more and more excited about highschool as the months pass and I’m glad to know that academic success is put in the hands of a school such as Thomas Moore. This high school is the perfect fit for me. It has everything I believe I need to be successful in my work and even more.
