Personal Narrative: My Love In The Healthcare Industry

I started off experiencing the healthcare system from an early age; this is where I fell in love with the industry. I was 8 years old and found myself in and out of hospitals frequently as my family was visiting my sick grandfather. While I was too young to completely understand what was going on at the time, I can still vividly remember the long tan corridors, the white lab coats and the smiling faces of all the workers. There was something unique and different about this place they called the “hospital, it felt different than the outside world. As I have grown older I still believe this to be true, healthcare is an industry where life (and not just the fiscal outcomes) is treasured more than you’ll find in any other industry.

I found myself back in those very same long tan corridors filled with white lab coats, but now instead of smiling faces I only noticed the worried faces of my family around me. This was a paradigm shift in my life where everything seemed to fall apart, only to be put back together better than I could have imagined. My grandmother’s helplessness turned my sadness into a vigorous desire for success, and with many hours spent inside hospital walls, I rediscovered my love for health and the healthcare system. I made it my goal to enter this beautiful world in order to help lives get healed, as it had done for both my grandparents. I believe I am an ideal candidate for the MSHA program due to my diverse background, unmatched work ethic and a true love for the industry. As I am still young in my career, I plan to take the slow trek through the program by taking two classes per semester. While some may hold the view that I am entering this program too early, I believe it is the perfect time, as I will have a projected graduation date of 2021. This will ensure that I am not only growing in the classroom, in the workplace, and at home, but that I am absorbing the material to my fullest extent
