Let me tell you something you already know life isn 't always about sunshine and rainbows, sometimes it can be really hard and not always the greatest. It isn’t always easy when challenging yourself to accomplish new goals. One goal I am working on is becoming a barrel racer. I am seeing a lot of failure and I don 't give up on my dreams because it is my goal to keep on going till I achieve my goals that I set for myself. Why one is because of fear and failure and what if it doesn 't work out for myself and the fear of not getting to be successful at my dream.
In March of 1993, there was a NASCAR race in Atlanta in which my dad and four of his friends decided to take a road trip to. The weather predicted for the race was supposed to be cold and rainy. My dad was the kind of person to prepare for anything, so he took gear for rain and cold weather. My dad, pulling a pop up camper behind his Chevy Silverado, met his four friends in Chattanooga. They finally got to Atlanta, where they set up in the middle green of the raceway.
Dear Friends and Family of Chief Warrant Officer Trevor Wilson and Major Pain, I still remember the first time I met them on February 23 1996 in the Reception Building. Me and Chief Warrant Officer Trevor Wilson and Major Pain. We rode on the bus together from the airport, we were so scared shaking in our boots as some might say. When ever we see the first drill sergeants we all broke a sweat on our foreheads. I remember a kid in the back behind Trevor that actually passed out because the drill sergeants where yelling at him.
“Ivan staggered a few yard, then stopped at the stone wall that surrounded his house, and bent over. A swell of nausea rose from his gut. His diaphragm jerked tight, and he vomited. Good Run. Damn Good Run.”
Today being the last full day of the event brought us a good crowd and we managed to gain strong support. We had positive responses from folks around the nation on issues we are trying to fix from other states that have seen the effects of shutting down mines and power plants. Everyone is looking forward to being part of the upcoming call to action. The amount of people was consistent throughout most of the day.
As with any story it is only fair to mention the rough times. Then when you read about the laughable times, it is worth it. There are a few incidents that I would like to mention in this book. Only because it might assist people in avoiding the ‘first time’ mistakes of owning this type of dog. Tailgate was built short and stout.
My breath caught, I close my eyes tight. I just counted to five. I just counted five. My eye burned; I pulled with all my might, I was going too fast. I tugged again putting my entire weight into it finally I slowed down.
A couple of weeks ago, my sister’s fiancé sent me a text asking me if I want to meet Richard Petty. My heart started pounding with excitement when I read that message. My sister’s fiancé gave me the details about where Richard Petty was going to be at and I could not wait for the day that I would be standing beside a NASCAR legend. On July 17, Richard Petty came to the Rite Aid corporate office to support their annual carnival for the kid’s event to raise money for the children’s miracle Network and Hershey Childrens hospital.
“Alright, you guys have run the course before. You 've all trained hard throughout the whole month for this. For many of you, this will be your last race this season, so make it count!” Coach Guzmán announced during a whole team huddle behind the Sports Pavilion and next to the track at Tustin High School. This was the day before the race, the Empire League Finals, which determines which schools will move on to the CIF Southern Section Preliminaries, the Cross Country equivalent of the quarterfinals in other sports.
Do you remember your first car? Was it an old beat up Camry? Mom’s hand-me-down van? A new Mercedes complete with a big bow on the hood the day it was gifted to you? Whatever it was, I bet mine is a better story.
I glance over, and I see him, we lock eyes and he even seemed to smirk when he saw me as I turn back to face the light. My grip tightens, and a cold chill swept through the car. Patiently I wait and as soon as the light turns green, I drop the clutch and off I go. I grab second before I’m even past the lights overhead.
One incident I can recount when I experienced failure was when I joined Cross Country. Since, I can remember I have always excelled at everything I did, from my academics to dance class to music lessons. When I entered into my freshman year of high school, I decided I would to join an athletic team in order to keep myself occupied outside of academics. I figured joining a sport would be another good attribute to add to my resume.
Wednesday night after church some friends and I had gone to get ice cream at Sunny Skies and we all rode together. We get back to the church and I leave for Kylee’s house.
A Change of Pace Last January, my parents went to Mexico on vacation with some of their good friends. They were not able to take us because it was right as school was starting the second semester. This vacation was planned at the last minute, so they did not know what do with my brother and me. Of course I thought it would be a great idea for us to stay home alone for the week, but my mom did not find that as appealing as I did.
My passion for speed is like noting in this world the real felling of freedom in my sole As I strap down and time slows down all I could think of is how fast could I go, to me it started at an early age when my dad broth home a small motorcycle I could barely fit on it of how small it was, at that time it was the fastest ting I have ever been on, the filling I got as I rode around the block I felt invisible like no one could touch me as if I owned the world and earth’s rotation could not keep up with me. Every year my dad will surprise me with a bigger and faster toy he knew my excitement and joy I felt every time I went fast, my happens always broth a smile to his face, not always was it an enjoyment.
