It was just a pretty French delicacy; composed of two purple cookies and lavender filling. The first bite was heavenly. The lavender flavor exploded in my mouth and the cookie had a delightful crunchy top, but the inside was soft and moist. Who knew that at this exact moment this bite would spark a never ending macaron making obsession? A French macaron is a classic French confectionery composed of two cookie shells and a filling in-between; they come in all different colors and flavors. Macarons cost around $3 per macaron which are too expensive to buy. Therefore, I decided to make my own. Macarons are known for being the hardest cookie to make but this challenge didn’t scare me instead, it motivated me. With day after day of trial and error and one failure after the next, I have to admit, I almost gave up. Somehow, I got up every day and began again, no matter how many failures I had. It was me against that little cookie and I was going to win. After spending countless hours researching what went wrong and how to improve my technique, the day of success had finally arrived. I was ecstatic, bursting at the seams with joy. Six months it took me to finally feel that sense of accomplishment, the “oh I'm so glad I didn’t give up” feeling. I persevered!
