A small 5-year-old girl walking downstairs through the outside back door of her grandmother’s house in Mexico, sliding down each step of the staircase, set in the exterior connection between the two floors, just to be able to use the restroom on the first floor; a reminiscence that portrays commitment. Uniquely, this one experience defined my character. I’ve replayed this moment in my head many times through difficult times. I’ve had to face fear, anger, disappointment, and uncertainty all alone. Yet, I had never met any other person with whom I could identify with those same trademarks; until I became a medical assistant.
I would maintain the patient’s privacy. I would instruct the cleaning worker to keep the floor dry every time. I would make sure that every examination and reviews were done prior to surgery. I would check the patient’s record carefully before administering drug. I would confirm patient’s sensitiveness to any kind of allergic reaction and consult with doctors if needed.
I was highly impressed by the overall teamwork in the emergency department. It has a sense of organized chaos that would have taken me some time to adjust to. My nurse and I ended up going through a large group of patient during the time I was there. The nurse has this uniformity to how she would get her tasks done. The thing that through me off was the amount of stuff got done with our patients by other people.
Since the beginning of wondrous time, physical therapy has always been an option for my profession. It is my belief that this occupation grant the exposure of great responsibilities and professionalism to set a high standard for a patient need. As a family member, I want to be able to monitor the health and safety of my grandpa so that I can help to assure a joyful and independent life for my loved one. As a family member, I want a system that is inexpensive so that my family can afford it. As a medical technician, I want a system that provides me with real-time resident’s profile information so that my team can assure their best treatment in case of an emergency.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
The medical field has always been interesting to me since I was a child and the thought of saving a life astonishes me. My passion for medicine has developed as I grew older, especially when my Grandmother was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. In 2015, my grandmother was diagnosed with this type of cancer, and we later found out that it spread to her liver and her spine. Her liver was covered with Mets and therefore was classified as stage 4. Her cancer was very aggressive and was extremely hard to control.
